What are some good Warm-up exercises?

Could anyone give me some advice on good warm up exersizes to do when playing guitar. My friend said he warms up doing several John Petrucci exercises as well as Joe Satriani model memorization/chord run through. I'm going to try to look into those exersizes but anyone else have good suggestions? help would be appreciated thanks.

Re: What are some good Warm-up exercises?

some jumping jacks and a few push ups will help. :-)
when i used to warm up, i would just go through the chromatic stuff, y'know, start at the first fret and work your way up on all the strings and back down. i economized all those excersizes into one, so i get a picking work out, forward, backward with slides, skipping strings all in one.
i would say anything that gets your fingers moving is a good warm up. repetition seems to be the key i think.

here's a simple one I do all the time...

http://www.vincelupone.com/warmup1.html

Before gigs, during gigs, etc. After I'm set-up and they're going through check on the other musicians/instruments, etc., I'll just quietly sit back behind my amp with a guitar going through some very simple 3 string harmonic minor runs as fast as I can as in the diagram on that page. I've found it's a great way to get your fingers warm fast in a cold club.

During cold outdoor gigs, and cold ass clubs (cheap bastards wont pay for heat sometimes) I would usually try to run some hot water over my hands as well as warm up. Ill admit fingerless gloves would have helped a bit sometimes too. Nothing worse than losing the feeling in your fingertips right before you have to sweep pick
