What harmonizing intervals does Vai commonly use?


for example on liberty, building the church e.t.c.

sorry if i sound like a "noob".

any help aprecciated,

I'm pretty sure he uses octaves for the most part. In the sustainer sections of Building the Church, I think he goes down a sixth from the highest note, as well as down a third or fourth (can't tell).

Steve uses 5ths most of the time on the harmonizer- sometimes 4ths.
Remember, when soloing over changes - primaries such as 4ths & 5ths are pretty much all that will work. Major 3rds will not cut it if pentatonic phrasing is called for because you are flating the 3rd and 7th in that scale.

I'm jus sayn........ ;^)

When you harmonize in thirds, you're using major or minor thirds depending on what note in the scale you're playing. You don't stick to a single interval.
Just making sure the threadstarter knows.
