Being from the Nashville area, it'd be a sin if you didn't.

Re: What is "chicken pickin' ?"
Thread revival.
I was recently wondering about this. I'd like to learn how to "chicken pick" but was wondering how to do it. I'm a little shady on playing over the chord vs playing in the scale. Are any notes fair game, provided you emphasize the notes in the chord? My lack of theory knowledge is gonna be pretty obvious here . . .

Wow for a second there I thought his fretboard was rosewood. But no, it's just REALLY dirty. And by dirty I mean it's had the hell played out of it.

Re: What is "chicken pickin' ?"
see if you can get your hands on a Steve Morse instructional DVD. He tackles this very question and teaches you how to pull the string up and make that popping sound (all the while claiming he doesn't really know what it is). Amazing. hope you find it.

Re: What is "chicken pickin' ?"
I need a video that slows it right down I think. I was practicing today, but it just ended up being me remembering how to finger pick classical style. I wasn't "picking" I was more "fingering" (minds out of the gutter. . .). They are using their fingers, not their nails? Anyway, I need a good (slower) exercise that I can speed up once I get a bit better at it. I mean there's a certain style to it that's just not clicking.
