Re: what is flutter?

it's that strange, quick vibration almost chirpy sound that happens when you slap/pull-release on a floating trem.

Re: what is flutter?

'Flutter' is a cross between Flora and butter

Seriously, look on youtube for 'for the love of god' by Vai and when he get's to the end of the flurry of notes in the main solo, you'll see him fling his arm back and rub across the whammy very quickly. That makes the trem vibrate, thus creating the flutter sound.

Hope that helps

Re: what is flutter?

Check out Andy LaRocque's guitar solo at 2:10 at the song "Trapped in a corner". That's a great example of a fludder.

I don't like Death Metal, but Andy is an amazing guitarist with a complete own style imo. That solo is in my book one of the best ever. He truly makes his guitar howl

I suppose technically its the springs fighting the string tension and overshooting until balance is acheived... (critical damping anyone?)

Mr. Garrison: Now, does anybody know what sexual harassment means? [Cartman raises his hand] Yes, Eric?
Cartman: When you're trying to have intercourse with a lady friend, and some other guy comes up and tickles your balls from behind.

I love Death and Andy LaRocque. Some of Andy's solo's with King Diamond are pure killer!

Re: what is flutter?

ide love to help, but what exactly are we talking about?!

a flutter sound is a trill isnt it? :S

and the noise u make by causing the trem to "traumatize" would best be desribed as a gargle, no?

Steve vai has a really cool section on his site about these weird noises
http://www.vai.com/LittleBlackDots/84/weird_noises.html

enjoy, and happy holidays
