NO Vai song is easy Alfy The problem with Die to live (as with any of his tunes) is nailing the tone and all the "little things" he adds.

Liberty is a good place to start, but it has some insane runs at the end that could be pretty hard to nail. You can find PARTS of many of his songs somewhat easy to play, but making it through an ENTIRE Vai song note for note, is another story.

Vai is straight up HARD TO PLAY! Learning a Satch tune is much easier and far less frustrating

Spot on Jim - I'm sticking to Satch

The melody bit on Liberty is nice and easy but the ending is stupidly fast !!!

The first Vai song I learnt to play was the DLR song Goin Crazy,I didnt find it easy but if you break it down and learn one part at a time its not too bad.

Midnight and tears In The Rain are good ones for satch, those are the two of his i can only do, well even tried. Good thing about them, you dont need the rest of the band, tears is just a guitar, and midnight just has some drums in the middle section which you can get away with without.

I still can't play a whole Vai song. One day I hope to learn how to play FTLOG all the way through!

'Die to live' was the first one that came to mind, but Giant balls of gold is a good one, too!

That's actually one of my favorite Vai pieces.

"For the love of God" is not that hard to play and my favorite Vai song forever.

You can listen to it hear: http://www.myspace.com/stevevai

Just in case some of you younger folk don't remember Vai's glory days. And if you have never seen the movie "crossroads" with Vai in it, turn your computer off right now and get your A$$ down to blockbuster.

Re: Which Vai Song to learn first??

That guy does some pretty good Satch, too. I don't know if I would attempt that intro, but most of that song is managable. I used to be able to play most of it, but I forget...

This is how I will always remember Vai:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0QKbnCDW94

When he grabs the trem and shakes the guitar in his face is the best!

If it wasn't already painfully obvious, the riff at the beginning is the direct ancestor of Bad Horsie. I remember from the commentary on Live At The Astoria London that he was talking about how he had to come up with a riff that sounded like a train. He did, and he later reused it, albeit in drop-C, for Bad Horsie.
