Writing a solo.

Have you guys ever had a song you had written with a band, and tried to write a solo only to realise that you suck!LOL, that's how I feel right now. I've been working on something for a month, and I finally though I had something, only to fail to replicate it the way I had played it when I attempted it again. I'm all down for the off the cuff stuff, but I'm not secure enough to do it for 32 bars, especially in the live settings.
I guess the point of this is to ask what you guys think should be my main focus point. Should I try to create a nice melody, and stick with that while throwing in little bits of speed, or should I just work on a few licks based on scales in the key of the song? I don't know what I want to do, because I want the solo to be memorable.
I was also thinking of asking the band to change tempos midway through the solo section or something, in order to make things a tad bit more intresting or to give me more to work with. I'd love to hear what you guys think.
The song can be heard at www.Myspace.com/thesyndicatenyc . The song name is simply track three, because we're still working on everything. But any and all input is appreciated.
Thanks a ton,
Nik
P.S. there's a solo on track two, and one of the bends isn't in pitch. That's not me, that's the other guitar player... I don't know if I should try to cop something like that or not.. I'll let you guys be the judge

Not my style of music. But I would say go with the vocals. Try to sing what you would like to hear in the song - then try to play what you sing. For 32 bars I think some sort of hook line would be good. Maybe to make it 4x8 bars, with the same start on each round... Just an idea.

Re: Writing a solo.

Can't listen to your track at the moment, but here's my advice...

If you can, sit down and record your improvising.

I usually will just build it as i go - i'll listen and say 'i liked this part, i'll keep it, now where will i go from here.' Hopefully you have some way to record yourself. I usually take about 50 takes if i'm buildling from the ground up.

Good luck!
