you guessed it: another mode question!!!

What exactly is meant by the terms :

Phrygian Dominant?
and
Lydian Dominant?

can any of the modes be dominant? or: can they be diminished?

cheers

Kevin

edited thru invention of a new mode made from different spelling

carlos, you are correct -- "dominant" implies a flatted 7, which would then say that a mode with anything other than a flatted 7 could be made dominant by doing so.

ok, well...

the phrygian-dominant is a phrygian mode with a raised major 3rd. This mode is also known as the Spanish Phrygian, major phrygian or spanish flamenco. Nothing special about this mode, its a mode of the harmonic minor scale(5th mode to be precise).
