Jemfest in europe?

Quite a while back (on the old forum) there was a discussion about having a jemfest in Europe possibly London.

Does anybody have any further thoughts about that?

cheers

Simon

Jemfest in europe?

Well I'd be extremely interested.

But whether there would be enough attendees is a different matter.
It would also require a dedicated person/group to oversee the organising and scouting out of the acts to perform, not to mention the immense cost of even hiring out a shed in London as a venue

The first step would be drumming up the interest, maybe try and lobby a few of our european friends into making the trip over, then Sponsorship and donations will have to be looked into.
It's a daunting task and you can certainly appreciate the work and dedication that's shown by everyone in the U.S., but as I said, I for one would be majorly interested.

On a side note, if something could be tied in with the Music Live exhibition's at Birmingham NEC (in terms of hiring space) then it may make things a little easier.

Steve

I really like the idea of a European Jemfest and this has been going around ever since Jemfest 99. *

If you need any assistance let me know - I'm sure Kevan can fill you in on some things too. *It not an easy task and it takes tons of money and free time to do something like this.

Perhaps you could get the ball rolling with a less ambitious event. Just get everyone together for a jam or just to hang at someone’s house. Worry about venue, bands and the rest after interest grows.

Making it worth the cost of the drive or flight would take some creativity. Maybe you could simply rent a conference room in a Hotel for one day in conjunction with someone else’s spectacular event. Like doing it the day before or after a Vai concert in London, for example.

I would be game for say sometime towards the end of summer? I would also suggest Germany since it would be more centrally located for all concerned.....

Just my .02 in USD of course.....

I would be able to get hold of a good sized venue in South Kensington, London without too much difficulty. *I could also get hold of everything we needed to put on bands (PA and backline). *

I agree that we should probably combine it with another major event such as a Steve Vai gig.

I guess we have to start low key and work up!

later in the summer anyone?

cheers

To be honest, to drum up the interest/funds/acts for late summer would be a mammoth task even for quite a small gathering.

Probably a view to next year would be a more viable option giving more time to turn it into a larger event, unless you're speedy gonzales'

P.S. Contacting Guitarist/Total Guitar etc... and trying to drum up sponsorship/help from them is another idea.

Jemfest in europe?

How about a small jemfest-UK/europe later this year as a start? *a dry run if you like for doing a big(ger) one next year.

I am happy to play a big role (but not all!) in organising it-I have done a lot of organising gigs etc. in the past.

I suggest we have a day long thing on a Saturday in the Autumn. *We can catch a lot more people if the Universities are back and that is in fact where the venues I can get hold of are.

I can get two bands (mine and another) featuring Ibanez guitarists (jems, UV, jpm, js) and I am sure I can get more.

Almost all the backline can be provided (free) and we are talking 100 W amps and 4x12s and a PA.

If anyone wants to make this happen and see the venues I am talking about then let me know.

I wont really be able to sort all this out myself!

so apply now for the organising committee!

Cheers

If you need any web support we could create a 'European Jemfest' section on the Jemfest.com site. *We could post pictures and news on the event. *I'll help out as much as possible from this side of the pond.

There may be some legal issues surrounding the use of logos and certain names or terms so contact me if you have any questions.

Even if you get a few people together - you'll have a good time!

Mini-Jemfest-UK-2001
ok I want to do this.

I am going to look into organising something for October/November in London.

Be back with more details asap when I will start a new thread.

I would welcome any help/advice from other UK-based jemsite members especially ones with bands who would like to play.

cheers

Jemfest in europe?

How about this for an idea.

The music shows in Birmingham or London see how much it would be to get a stall and we all just turn up.

There's an increadibly slight chance you might get sympathy from Ibanez especially if we get Ibanez t-shirts caps etc and do a bit of free advertising. But I've not see Ibanez at any shows for a while. But then again if the new Jem comes out....

I wouldn't like to organise it either if truth be told. But it would either need to be at someone's (Big) house (Which is a bit scary for everyone especially the owners) or in a hotel with a conference room/stage type area. *

First you would need to contact those interested. Start off real small. *E.G. Everyone in Scotland meet for starters somewhere central to put names to faces and if E. J. Fest happens in Nov then folks can hitch rides with others.

Basically what i'm saying is sound the waters first don't go organising this huge event when in reality only 10 people will turn up.

Personally a Jem Fest at Loch Ness would be cool for the roots vibe. Bring some batteries and you can do a FTLOG at Glencoe

Jemfest in europe?

I have access to a large venue with stage, lights and can get hold of backline and PA (all free). *There is also a bar next door which also serves food.

My band will play for free so we just need a few more bands and a few people to turn up for a jam session and that will do for a start.

I am not so keen to do a stand at a music show and sit around and talk about Ibanez guitars-I am doing that here.

Pablo, I am aware that huge numbers wont turn up. *I have said already that it will be low-key and small to start-maybe just jemsite members and friends.

let me know what you think

great, see you there

I will be sorting out a date for it next week when a guy gets back after holiday who deals with the venue.

I have spoken to someone else involved with the venue... so far so good

keep you posted

cheers

Jemfest in europe?

Simon,
Great idea this, Id love to see a European Jemfest. *If I can offer any assistance I am at your disposal

Maybe we can start by building a picture of where people are based and how many people would be interested in attending/contributing. *It would also allow people the opportunity to hook up beforehand as Bob & Pablo suggest.

How about we take up Gabe's offer of some space on the site which could act as a focal point. *If necessary we could always point to an external URL that we could update & maintain ourselves.

Good idea, Steve, regarding contacting the various guitar mags. *Probably worth sticking a post on U.M.G. *I know Adrian Clarke and a few other influential guys hang out there a great deal.

Let's make this a reality!
