Jemfest Jam

Kremlin, story for ya... (yes another Dave story...)...

Was in a guitar store. There was a 15 year old kid there. All of a sudden a 8 note phrase came out of his guitar that floored me. I went up to the youngster (being 38 I can use terms like that) and asked what did he just play. Turns out he just started playing a few months earlier. He knew pentatonic scales but didn't really understand them and he was just hittin this note and that note. It took us about a half hour to get it.

Moral to this story. A 20+ year player learned from a player of 4 months. It's not about burning, it's putting the right note in the right place and saying to yourself "wow".

Dave

PS - As soon as my hand heals I will be giving that kid lessons. He will be a monster. He will eclipse my ability (playing and my ability to teach him) within a year. I will start hating him soon so I don't have to aquire the anger real quick....LOLOLOLOL

lol! Thanks.. I have zero theory knowledge so I feel pretty inadequate hanging out with guys like that.. I mean, I know the pentatonics up and down the board, and I can rip on natural and harmonic minors, and I can play dorian decently too, but I'd just look terrible next to the likes of Eric Sands.

I also live in a relatively small city compared to many of the places you guys jam at in jemfest, etc., so there are very very few people who I can jam with. I've only met one other person in an age group even close to mine here who's remotely interested in similar music to me, and other than him, most players under 20 years of age here just want to play nu-metal garbage on a detuned 7 string and never even touch the top 4 strings.. Grr..

Do you think I'd benefit from Jemfest? Being a minor, it's a little awkward for me to go to something like that.
