I haven't travelled with a guitar, but I have been on planes since 9.11. It's no fun being searched; she couldn't be the flight attendant from my dreams, right? :-)
Expect tight security, but I don't see any reason why you can't take a guitar or two with you (carry-on, of course).
***If*** you want to check it in, I'd suggest wrapping the case in at least one layer cardboard (then save the cardboard when you get to Orlando so you can send it back safely).
Call the airline and ask about bringing guitars. Also, if you happen to be at the airport, and there's not a line, go and ask one of the flight staff. They're pretty helpful with this sort of thing.
Gabe's former JEM10 had about 20,000 frequent flyer miles. He's the pro with this sort of thing. :-)
