A cover of a cover

I haven't posted anything in a while...I just recorded this cover of the No Doubt cover of It's My Life. I wanted to make it a little more disco-ey.

There's a nice little guitar solo (with only one wrong note) at about 2:45 even if you don't like the song.

All the guitar tracks were recorded with my Jem (BFP) into a Peavey Transtube, Mic'd with a Sennheiser e835. All the rhythm tracks are doubled and panned hard left and right.

I'm trying to get the hang of mixing vocals. I had one track to work with and I spent about 2 hours this morning with it. I know it's a little hot - try to get over it. The singer is the girl from my wedding band, not Danielle who went on tour with TSO.

I've been using Cool Edit Pro 1.1 which I'm finding to be very buggy, at least under Win2k.

Without further ado... It's My Life

Very cool.
The plastic drums and long synth lines make it sound very 'eighties'. I suspect this is deliberate. The guitar lines seems well thought out and I especially liked your playing on the verses.

I've never heard the original so I can't compare but it is definetly disco-ey.
Good job!

Mighty cool Kenny.
Your stuff is always top notch even if it’s something you just “whipped” in a few hours.
Your singer has a great voice but she is holding back and it shows.
Tell her to open up and just sing with all her might or were you recording this at home and didn’t want to bother the neightburs?
Also the vocals are just a touch too loud in the mix, turn them down a bit and you’ll have the coolest cover-cover out there.

THanks dex

I think she was trying to get that breathy sound like Gwen Stefani . She did two passes and i forgot to save one of them, so i only had the one track to work with. She hates it

Danielle just got back from the TSO tour and once she learns the song I'll probably put her vocal on there.

The coolest thing was doing it live with a band - my wedding band learned it from my arrangement and we did it the other night at a party - not only did it totally rock, but the crowd loved it too. Now if only I could write my own stuff

I really like it. Lovely solo there without going OTT. Very nice piece overall I thought. Like you said, it is that sort of song that goes down well at parties! Good Job.

Nice Kenny! I like it!
A good tune to begin with, too. And a good cover of it.
