Re: a video from me

I saw that now....

let me tell you that you play very well....BUT...I think you should be more confident..attack the notes with more conviction(? not sure about this word...i'm portuguese, my english isn't perfect)..anyways..everything's good except the lack of confidence...you can see my vids on one thread on this forum( it's called "-ATTENTION- Watch this VIDEOS.............")...KEEP Practicing...You're on the good way!! (like me...i've been playing for 7 months....less than you..lol....and i'm giving you advice...i don't play half the things you play)

let me just add that you need to improve your slides so that you can reach the right note with a smooth and natural slide....the legato technique is awesome...

Re: a video from me

Nice, man!

I wasn't able of such things after 2 years and a half!

My advice would be : listen closely to your bends!

You seem to be really focused on "putting your fingers at the right place". try to be aware of each note you play.

Good exercise : play double stops with one bend and the other string fretted normaly to compare the pitch. Example: fret E on B string with your index and bend D to E on G string. You will learn to reach perfect pitch this way.

This exercise works best with non-floatting bridge, of course (to avoid to flatten the normally fretted note).

Nice video anyway!

Re: a video from me

That was really good man. You're really precise with your playing. You seem to have the same problem as me though. Playing with the "feeling" of the song. I'm often very robotic with my playing, which really sucks. Keep rockin.

Re: a video from me

^^ Don't worry about that...playing with the feeling of the song is a problem that we all have....For example...don't expect to play a Zakk Wylde solo exactly how he plays it (it's to personal)...you can't..It isn't because you have less technique than Zakk..It's because you are diferent, and so is zakk so don't even try to copy his solos...do it YOUR way..it's better..playing oher guys songs, learning with them but playing them with your feeling...you'll develop your own style...

Good job.

Have you tried it using a wah pedal? I think that is used on the original.

I would love to see you tackle som ac/dc too, they rock.

Hi Mate

I thought you did very well, your guitaring future looks promising

id have to agree about the bends and dont try and hide behind heaps of gain (says me, the king of stupidly overgained presets)

I think if you practice more you will nail that tune in a year or so. You have nice tone in your fingers.

Keep it up, Rome wasnt built in a day.

Re: a video from me

Hey Jem_fanatic,

Keep up the good works! Playing good is not the (only) issue, DARING to show your playing is a much more important issue. So congrats on not being intimidated by the presence of the great number of awesome shredders on this forum. I'm sure you'll spread your wings in the (near) future

On a sidenote, I read an interview with Kiko Loureiro recently, and something he said reminded me of myself when I started out on guitar 32 years ago. He said "I wasn't at all into making a shred album for guitarists. What I tried to do is play with the same attitude that got me into playing when I was 11 years old. I wanted to make the music that I liked"

I think he did a great job

As an advice, I can only say to you this:

Some humans get stung forever by the first guitar notes they hear, and then it never goes away. They become guitarists. It makes us practice, suffer and practice again. I think you're one of those...

And then one day, suddenly "we spread our wings". It happened to me for the first time some 25 years ago. And now I remanifest that same feeling time after time. Here's a link to a tune I was using to practice the use of solely major arpeggios/scales (I had gotten sick and tired of minor and harmonic minor scale use). What you hear is, in fact, an emotional outburst, about half an hour after getting the news that my father was severely ill and dying of cancer. The experience was awesome, I was crying most of the time while I played. And I'm happy I hit "record" then, because I did what a musician should do: spread his/her wings and translate what is heard in the Mind under influence of the Heart to the fretboard. I call this "direct input". It's when there are no conscious braincycles while playing, but sort of a direct connection between what one hears in his head and what flows from one's fingers. Friends and other musicians say that this tune is very "Engines of Creation" (Joe Satch) alike. I don't know, and I don't care.

The only thing I know is that while I played, it felt like when I heard Steve's "for the love of god" for the first time. Same extacy, but me myself and I playing and not Steve (I played FTLOG a lot in my life, btw). I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed playing it: http://demogorgos.is-a-geek.net/music/Esgarrat.mp3

And damn! I will make a video of this one and post it when I find some time.

Like I said, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORKS!!!

Regards,

D.

Re: a video from me

yeah im finding it real ahrd to actually FEEL the music flow as opposed to just playing it with a set expression off nothing, need to try and get the music to connect to diff aspects of my i guess you could say emotional parts of my life so i could soon express myself through other songs or even write one of my own, any tips on this would be apreciated i just wanted to let each of you know this advice will stick with me and i appreciate it all thank you
