I am addicted to learning the art of relicing..
believe it or not its a wonderful artistic stress reliever for me..
I know most of ya hate it, but so what im going to show ya anyways your my family
based of a guitar
john mayer
has been playing recently.. with a little SRV thrown in for good measure.. LOL
Original:
point of reference pre darking of the wood and before lots of other work..
And this is the work in progress.. Its not finished yet.. Stay tuned...

IMO, It depends on the guitar.
Strats and tele's happen to look great (IMHO) with a little wear and tear on them...most of the brand spankin' new ones just don't seem right to me. I think a moderately light relic job looks nice.
More modern looking guitars, however (i.e. Jem, Prestiges' etc.) don't look good with it to me. They should be kept in good condition (but don't just leave it in its case all its life
)

If an MIJ, basswood ibanez went through the same ordeal as those old beaten up strats then it would be in several peices. you knock a strat, youll chipp some paint off, you knock a basswood iby, youll take a chunk of wood out.

Re: Another one in the making I know you guys hate these
Cool, it's looking good. I've just done a couple of
strat relic
projects myself recently (I know what you mean about stress relieving
) to put on the bay for more gear. If I actualy ever went out and bought a brand new strst I would definatly do a relic job on it as strats don't look rock and roll until they have some scars imho.
I gave this a heavy Gallagher job
..and a light relic on this one.
It's a lot of fun to do and it's probably the cheapest mod on the planet.
