Wow, Sanata thank you...finally a complete performance from ZpZ.
I feel that the first solo posted was musically more interesting. You are right though, the original version is a joke, it's so good. Frank's solo on the album is beyond belief. I can't think of any other guitarists who can so consistently throw out ideas for which I have no idea where they will start or end. You know...maybe
Eric Johnson because he composes on piano and then transposes to six strings, and the Venus Isle "Lonely in the Night" solo is pretty hypnotic and wonderful, but whoa: Zomby is out of the solar system for sure. Some guitarists, I can sort of know where there going to go with their solos, it's all good of course, just a little "by the numbers"...and in those cases, tone and passion and articulation make it worthwhile...but Frank had all that plus this ridiculous sense of randomness. Ah, just remembered: EVH is probably the closest in terms of invention, but still a far way off, but to be fair it's hard to compare and why would anyone want to anyway?! Listen to Women and Children First - Eddie's on fire in terms of ideas. Every riff, fill and solo is beautifully unique and yet uniquely Eddie.
What can I say, Over-nite Sensation is jawdropping...the "I was doing Knopfler before Knopfler" vibe on Camarillo, his power and tone on I am the Slime, Dirty Love's lyrics, the violin solo on Fifty-Fifty, his mellow vocals on Dinah-Moe-Hum, the solo on Montana. My favourite Zappa album at the moment and has been on rotation for way too many months now. Work of art, musically wonderful and lyrically genius.
