ok ok ok I'm not trying to rag on him I'm just sayin!
so what's with the tape on the bridge and some weird lookin thing by the headstock/nut of the guitar?

Looks like an old fashioned string-damper.

It's a way to stop strings if you hit or touch somethng you don't wanna to saund...it makes things easier for sure!

The playing my teacher is exhibiting is hardly 'shredding', it's very tasteful fusion. I couldn't care less about shredding in all fairness.

Personally I think 'shred' has been exhausted by people sat in their bedrooms on youtube. That is UNLESS you add some other elements that make your playing different to everybody else a la
Guthrie Govan
.
PG and his ilk get away with it because they're the innovators in my book.

I loved the guy - he was a father-figure to me in so many ways.
