Ever wondered how much your project will cost ?? Post project costs here !

posted as a word of warning as much as any other reason...

BTW, I completely blame ALL other JEMsiters for my project guitar, (thanks)
OK, so I thought I had a good idea of how much my project would cost...
I didnt. simple as that.....

Breakdown of costs:

Neck - £210
Body - £260
Trem - £150
Pots - £20
Nut & Tree - £35
Tuners - £35
Strap Buttons - £10
5 Way Switch - £23
Pickups - £70 (bargain – got past the customs men)
Misc screws - £5
Jack Plug - £5
Knobs - £9
Pickups Rings - £20
Misc Postage - £25

Total to date - £877 (roughly $1580 USD)
im pretty sure that there are other costs that I have missed like a case or a strap etc but thats irrelevant...
the cost of getting a guitar that you want is all about value anyway really...

the finished artlicle... (minus the knobs)

anyone else have a similarly costly experience ???

Im sure im not alone

Well, due to my disappointment with recent Ibanez guitars (in fact, with the last 10 years of Ibanez guitars), I decided to put something together myself that will blow any Ibanez into the weeds. Shouldn't be hard to do considering I could have it built from decent wood for starters (basswood = asswood), get a neck built with a reverse headstock seeing as Ibanez don't offer one, ebony board, my choice of pickups (humbucker in bridge, single coil in neck), and all the rest of the stuff. I totalled it up to around £700. I hope it doesn't cost loads more than this. Probably will though!

I just recently finished building a custom with my Dad. I bought an RG neck off the Bay and we made a body from scratch from American Alder. Used a Gotoh FR and EMG humbuckers. All up this cost around AU$1302 or US$952.

I'm extremely happy with the end product for that price. Especially since it's the first one we've made.

Well, Rich has a GMC for sale at the moment for $4400US, so in comparison, you are looking pretty good - AND you got a DNA neck, and they feel sooo nice! - I suppose you could have saved the 20 quid on pickup rings and direct mounted them?

Here's my current project:

Trashed Gibson Explorer: $300 US = $600 AUD landed
new gold bits: $185 AUD
paintstripper/sandpaper etc $50 AUD
Seymour Duncan pickups $200 AUD
Quilted Maple Veneer front/back $165 AUD
Titebond glue for veneer $33 AUD
Professional refinish $600 - 700 AUD

Hmmmm - I could have bought an Explorer Custom, with the maple front and back, on **** for about $1500 AUD.......ummmm .........

I guess it's the experience that counts..... maybe .......

Great looking guitar you've got though, I assume you are a VERY happy owner!

Re: Ever wondered how much your project will cost ?? Post project costs here !

My two projects were both AU$1500 (~US$1200). The expensive bits were the neck, Edge, and Dimarzios. Re-finished the bodies myself, if I had of paid for those as well, then I suppose could add another US$200-300.

But its worth every cent, you appreciate it more and there isn't another like it.
