help on getting my guitar to sustain


Hi guys i was wandering if anyone could help me out
I want to record Flying in a blue dream but i need to know how i can get my guitar to sustain like satch does at the start of the song.

i know that u have to have it miked up

Anyway way my gear is Ibanez rg1570, Boss GT6, 100 watt marshall, and a microphone

if sonone can give me any ideas it would really cool.

this is not a easy answer as there are many ways to pull off that sweet harmonic sustain.
Heres some basic ideas to get you in the right direction.

First sheer volume is needed...only way to do this at low volume is with a sustainer pickup.
Next need lots of gain on amp.....need to find the sweet spot in terms of distance from amp/ monitors.
Last most important thing is good finger vibrato technique........this is imperative.

When all else fails slam down on your wah and watch that note bloom into high pitched heaven.....Good Luck

try messing around with the feedbacker feature on ur gt-6

it's really a good tube amp (compression) getting hit with a DS-1 (extra gain) turned up really loudly (sheer volume).

Also worht mentioning- Satch has said in interviews that on live versions of that he tends to pick in time with his vibrato to hide the pick attack a bit to help the sustain a lot.

and while this is hardly satch-approved, generally if you raise your action a bit, sustain improves.
