Hi Guys! i bought some new stuff!

Hey Guys!

its been a while, I ve been busy with work and stuff, and in reality i havent had much time to practice, but because ive grown older, im now 26, im starting to enjoy older more classic music!

Ive taken a liking to good old Jimi Hendrix and more melodic bluesy type stuff.

In order for me to do this I would have to purchase a new guitar.

So i did.

I bought a brand new 2005 Fender Deluxe Stratocaster "V" Neck with noiseless pickups and S1 switching.

MY GOD.....the build quality of this instrument is amazing, the finish is brilliant and the sound is heavenly, even with distortion it can hold its own!

the clean sound....OH MY GOD THE CLEAN SOUND IS AMAZING!

But...

Reality set in, this guitar is too nice to play every day, its even too nice to have on display in fear of someone touching it or strumming its strings and knocking it off the stand or something!

I decided that this guitar will live in my closet and be my legacy, it can be my own relic and an instrument of beauty that i can pass onto my children one day, maybe even be worth more money than i paid for it. After all, this strat has a 50th anniversary stamp on it which is apparently a rarity for this particular guitar.

here is a pic of her

i then thought...well this sucks i have a nice guitar, but im too scared to play it....or to at least take it to band practice. So after thinking long and hard i made the decision to purchase a Jimmie Vaughn Tex Mex Strat!

This guitar cost me under half of the Deluxe and from what i have read it comes loaded with one of the best necks fender ever made, all american vintage hardware and tex mex pickups! not to mention it is olympic white with a white pick guard and maple neck! I couldnt get much more hendrixy than that!

here is a pic of her

and here is the family together

BUT

i wasnt happy with the sound from the tex mex pickups and i didnt really like the single ply pick guard.

As it turns out, a generous person in a small town not far from where i live had a white 3 ply guard which had a set of 3 usa strat pickups, i purchased the lot for $100.

GOOD GOD!

This gutar is now an absolute animal! it looks so much better than the single ply guard in my opinion and the pickups sound a lot tighter and a little hotter, and quite a bit less hum.

here is a vid of me trying to play little wing on her

http://members.dodo.com.au/jjer/jimmy.wmv <- right click save as, dont laugh, i only just learned it!

The pickups sound very different compared to the USA deluxe w/s1, the deulxe sounds tighter and more modern, where the usa std`s sound very loose and kinda muddy in spots, but for me that was the sound i was after!

These fender guitars are so nice they almost play themselves, just plug em in and listen to the sweet sweet sounds!

Also, i wish i did this move 10 years ago, these fenders have a soul, i swear, all my other guitars are just lumps of wood with strings, but these fenders have a soul....

here is a pic of her in all her glory!

and a pic of my girlfriends P Bass Special Squier and my Red Strat

and one of her and the whole family!

cheers for now guys,

Jim

A mex strat with decent pickups is a great instrument, especially now that the newer ones have more modern frets on them - that was the only thing I didn't like when they came out, tiny frets.

A good Mex strat takes some beating. And yours looks great too! Much better with the new pickguard though - it really brings out the guitars features more.

I have been wanting to sell my Fender USA Yngwie Strat recently for something a little more "meaty".

But I played it all day yesterday, and I am completely drawn to it again! lol
Isnt that always the way? So I am glad I didnt get rid of it. There is just something "special" about a good strat. I had a good offer for the guitar last week actually - but when it came to the crunch.......I just couldnt do it! lol

Not the greatest photo, but here is my strat which started life off as a Mexi:

A few changes happened:
Neck replaced with a US standard
Tuners replaced with Sperzels
Pickguard changed
Pickups swapped for Dimarzios
Electronics taken from a Clapton Strat
Bridge replaced with a US standard
One or two other things I can't remember.

Other than that it is completely stock!

It is currently strung up with 11s for those SRV moments and sounds awsome.

What year was which bit?

The pickups, as far as I can remember, are a Heavy Blues in the bridge, Virtual vintage 2.2 in the neck and 2.1 middle.

nice man

im not gonna replace the pickups on my deluxe, they are noiseless and meaty enough to chug on most things,

but i am thinking of getting some noiseless vintage ones for my white JV strat, i like the cheesy hendrix/vintage sounds i get, i just want no hum

but all in all, nice axe man!
