...be able to play along a backtrack and take video of yourself using windows movie maker?

Record the audio separately to the video and then sync the 2 together. That's what I did using Garageband and iMovie on a Mac - I's assume Windows would be similar. I'd be interested if somebody has a better way

Same here. I recorded myself playing along with the backing track while running the vid camera. then opened the video with windows movie maker and inported the audio. I muted the audio that was on the video so you could only hear the inported track. synced it up and then cliped then ends and exported to max of 10megs for Youtube.
