I just remembered, I play with 3 fingers.

Most people can't tell. And I've been doing it for a while, since the horrible skill-saw incident took off the end of my 3rd finger. I hated to play in front of people for a while because I thought it was pretty darn freaky myself. And I did get strange looks the moment someone noticed.
Anyway, here it is, playing with 3 fingers on my left hand. The funny part is, When I'm sharing riffs with someone, and they see me play it up close, it's usually alot different, since I don't use my 3rd finger at all. And the same when I'm trying to learn a new riff that's has 4 notes on a string and some arpeggios. No try playing for 15 mins without your 3rd finger. You'll get an idea of what I had to learn.

Awesome man. Sorry to hear about the accident. I have always worried about something like that happening. There was a guy just yesterday that was complaining about his small hands...he should check out your thread.

People are capable amazing things when they set thier minds to it.

I commend you.

Great job Dude. It probably wouldn't cheer you up to say that's one more than Django Reinhardt had.

So you don't use it at all? Ever thought about popping a slide on that finger?
I figure since you don't use the finger at all you could always have a slide handy.

BTW, that's a great story of human perseverence. Thanks for sharing!

Re: I just remembered, I play with 3 fingers.

I actually cut a sizable chunk off my middle finger too. But the doctors knew I was a guitar player and brought in a specialist. He actually made a new tip for my finger out of part of my hand. It was amazing and took months to finish. My pinky was cut badly as well. I wasn't playing at all for some time. But my pinky healed first, so I played with my index and pinky as best I could for a few months with my other fingers bandaged up. So then GETTING to use another finger was a bonus. I had a 'prosthetic' rubber epoxy thing made more my 3rd finger I used for a while, but I couldn't feel the string. That was out. And it hurt like crazy to let it touch the fret board otherwise. I even tried left-handed for a couple days. That was impossible. So I just kept playing with 3 fingers. I accidentally used the 3rd to grab a bend a couple times practically yelling in pain before it was all healed. I think that was the clincher NOT to use it. I can use it now for bar chords if I need to. But it's short and goofy so it wont really work for running scales. You make due. I'm glad to be able to play. And to be honest, as a Christian. I thank God for sparing my other fingers. When it happened, as I was running toward the car blood shooting from the end of 2 fingers, I was so disappointed that I would never play again, ever. It just didn't seem possible after seeing my fingers all chopped up. And I was in a regularly playing band. But here it is years later and I still love playing.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
