I think it's bloody brilliant! Without any doubt
Marcel Coenen
is the best dutch guitar player, besides Eddie van Halen off course
What do you guys think?

I used to watch him play Yngwie malmsteen & Greg Howe songs in the little town Egmond at Sea in the early nineties with the band Speedica.
He was very young back then ( as was i
) and even then he blew other guitarists away.
An extremely naturally gifted natural player.

Didn't he also have a Satriani coverband? Or am I confused with someone else?

Of course he is! I am not taking anything away from the guy! I just think that calling him the best Dutch guitarist is a bit of a strech! he is definitely way better than Van Halen though!
but as usual you're leaving Adje Van Den Berg out, why??? IMO he should as much a hero as those two!!!

Don't forget Jan Akkerman. He's good, too. And George Kooymans... But those are the only people who come to mind, really, of the 'famous Dutch guitarists'. Except for a lot of session guitarists who work for various artists, performers, flashes in the pan and pretentious kids.

No problem Olie. The Netherlands is a just a small country and i've seen and heard loads of dutch guitarists. There are dozens of really good players here. Including Jan Akkerman, Robbert Hanenberg, Jerome Hol and many other great players.
Marcels playing just touches me like no other dutch player does.
What is the best? It's all subjective anyway.

Adje van den Berg.
Yes, he's a very good player and composer! Not my cup of tea, although i like his early playing.
I prefer
http://www.myspace.com/robberthanenberg
over Mr van den Berg.

I appreciate your insight on Dutch players! you know I'm just busting you chops mate!
I totally respect the fact that Marcel's playing reaches you in such a deep level! heck that's great!!!
Mr Hanneberg's stuff is very good but I'll stick with Adje
I should add that you have very good taste in music though!
