Sounds pretty good. I'm liking it, I hope that is is a good indication of what's on the album.

Re: Metallica Single - "The day that never comes..." (full version)

Sounds extremely dull and recycled to me. I can't believe this is the same guitar player who wrote the Master of Puppets solo, and the One solo, and the Disposable Heroes solo, and so many other metal classics. What happened to phrasing in guitar solos anyway?

After St. Anger I basically decided Metallica were dead to me. When I heard they'd be coming back with this album actually having some guitar solos and some substance (instead of "frantic tick tick tick tick tick tock") I got a bit excited about the album but I should've paid attention to the fact that it didnt say anywhere in the article that they were coming back with "good" guitar solos, lol. RIP boys, I'm really goin' to miss you. The early albums got me into rock and heavy music in the first place and I'll always appreciate Metallica for that.

Just my opinion though (so let's not have arguments and discussions). I havent yet heard the full album so maybe this is just one track like this, but we'll see. And thanks dave for posting the link.

Re: Metallica Single - "The day that never comes..." (full version)

Sounds promising as a single from my early listen to the beginning. I am definitely interested to see what becomes of the new album.

Edit: Through most of the song now, and it's not bad at all. Sounds like a real mix of everything they've done in the past which is cool.

It's good to hear Hammett hit the strings again in a lead way. Sure he's not in the same league as PG, JS, etc but his solos are an integral part of the Metallica sound. Was a fair effort.

Re: Metallica Single - "The day that never comes..." (full version)

Heard it yesterday on the radio

To be honest, I'm not impressed,...at all..
it seems like recycled metallica leftovers ( unforgiven II comes to mind )

The guitars sound cheap, like they were recorded with some modelling amp/fx
the vocals are strangely "high" pitched. like they were processed to sound like the singer is 20 years younger.
the overheads in the drums are ringing with cheap sounding cymbals and hats.
The guitar breaks are not very original and powerfull.
the guitar solos are truly crappy, no melodic line whatsoever, the cut at 7:00 sounds fake and the short legato bursts ( 5:52) earlier on sound like a ten year olds...
The breaks between powerchords and solo fills are clearly cut and don't fit well.

Overall it lacks the power and dimension of earlier metallica tracks. the sound quality is lousy and "modelled". Overall, I wouldn't be surprised if a forum member posted this song from his homestudio, instead of a band that was once one of the greats.
I guess touring makes you sloppy

They stopped Drinking..

this song is $hit, never in the history of music has a band gone and completely forgotten how to play all there instruments or write a good song after so many good albums like Metallica. They are dead to me as well, and have been for many, many years.

Is this really a "new" single? Not that it is bad, but it doesn't really sound new.

Can't say I am disappointed, because I was not expecting much. Everything Metallica has done since the black album has blown, and I don't expect that to change with this album.

i just listened finished listening? I thought they were going back to their roots? This song sounds nothing like the Metallica of the old. I'm sure they have better songs on the album. If this is their first single its a big mistake.
