Michael Hedges: Wow!

He's always been one of my favourite musicians, but I'd never watched him play. Check this out:

Flash and tricks IN A MUSICAL CONTEXT. And he makes it look so easy.

Re: Michael Hedges: Wow!

i got a call from Local 802 (the musician's union) about a month ago....One of the big movie studios (forget which) called them...they're filming a movie in NYC calld August Rush (http://imdb.com/title/tt0426931/) about a guitar player. They were looking for somebody who could teach Johnathan Rhys-Meyers to play a little guitar and also be his 'hand double' in the movie for the closeups of him playing. They specifically asked for somebody who could play in the style of Michael Hedges. Unfortunately, I was ruled out from the minute they said 'teach' (not to mention 'in the style of Hedges'), but i thought it would have been a cool gig to get.

Anyway, if you come across a film called August Rush sometime next year (i'm guessing '07), definitely go see it if you like Michael Hedges' music!

I listened a bit when i was in college...i should check out more of his stuff. Very cool!

That sounds great Kenny.

Hedge's music can be a bit repetitive, and perhaps a whole album of solo acoustic guitar may be too much for most people, but Aerial Boundaries... *shivers*

Michael Hedges was great. If you like Michael Hedges, you should make an effort to check out Preston Reed if you have not already. That guy is fantastic. My favorite album by him is no longer available (Instrument Landing) but Handwritten Notes and his new one that just came out earlier this year or late 2005 is also very good. Blue Vertigo (the one with Slap Funk) is also required

I looked through here to see if anyone mentioned Preston Reed and missed your post somehow.

My father just saw him in Baltimore, said he was amazing. I've been trying to see him live for years, and he used to play in Vermont a lot until he moved to Scotland, and the few times since I found out that he played in Vermont he was scheduled to play there, the shows ended up getting canceled . But he had him sign History of Now, his new CD for me
