Moddin the RG7321 Part III "The Scalloping"
Well since this guitar is a melting pot of some of my favorite aspects of guitars I cant afford. I offer the Scallop of the 21-24 frets ala "Jem"
I was nervous at first but I have some woodworking skills and well common sense. I see alot of scallop jobs where they just dig to deep and that was the one thing I was going to avoid. Also the binding thing was in the back of my mind as well.. But I perservered and here is the results.
As you can see in one of the pictures I barely hit the side dot position marker on the 21st fret. Oh well a little white will cover it up..
Whole job took about 45 mins. With two round files.
And Finally A Full Shot.. Mods so far: Fake Bindiing, Painted
Truss Rod Cover
, White Knobs and Switch Tip, and Painted Pickup Coils(Dimarzios in route)
Lets see what pops in my head to do next time.....
STAY TUNED.....
Brett

When you have gigantic nubby fingers like mine, hitting those
upper frets
isnt so easy.. Scalloping makes it so I dont have to put as much pressure on a fret to get it to sound.
Basically its easier for Nub fingers like mine to quickly and accuratly fret the higher notes.

Good stuff again there. If you like this are you going to do down the full neck scallop path?

@ Lone Phantom
I really just need help in the upper register.. I wouldnt like a full neck since I also like to play jazzy stuff and chord work would get weird..

Tasteful. I like it. I've got to try the last four fret scallop thing.

Nice, when the fretboard is lemon-oiled up that will look perfect

Re: Moddin the RG7321 Part III "The Scalloping"
seems like a waste of time to me, your in no way making it "easier" to fret, they are extra
jumbo frets
, when you fret a guitar that has jumbo frets its not like your touching string to the fretboard anyways, so in all reality.... its not easier to fret, the frets arnt moving...
sounds and looks like a cosmetic mod to me.

Even if it was just a cosmetic mod, he's happy to do it so good for him.
There are more reasons to scallop frets than just making it easier to fret.

Re: Moddin the RG7321 Part III "The Scalloping"
I have a fully scalloped S-Series as well as four non-scalloped electrics, and I can confirm that it DOES make a very noticeable difference. You never feel any wood below, and fretting and vibrato is beautifully easy. I would recommend it to anyone with an axe that they don't mind too much about.

seems like you don't know what you're talking about to me and seems as if you've only got one month into being a member round here and perhaps you should be a little more curtious about peoples work.
On the upper register the scalloping helps whith those grabbed bends FACT!! and there are a lot of folks here who feel the same way.
If you're SO against having the top few
frets scalloped
what on Earth are you doing here ? It's a mod lifted from the Jem series and this is Jemsite after all.
*shrugs*

Re: Moddin the RG7321 Part III "The Scalloping"
Lookin' pretty sharp, nicely done with the white pickups (should be whole not half IMO but that's just me), knobs, switch tip and binding around the body. Nice job on the scalloping too. Very cool.
