My New Version of SCARIFIED by Paul Gilbert! Mic'd with backing track!

Hey all!!!!

Just got done recording another version of me playing scarified. This time I mic'd my Peavey XXX 212 combo with a Shure SM57, and played with the backing track. Sound quality greatly improved!!. Ive been playing for 2 years or so. Made a few mistakes and my timing was wrong at the beginning of the solo, but oh well. I think it turned out very well. Let me know what you think! Rating/subscribing on youtube would be greatly appreciated. From now on all of my videos will be recorded using the mic. Thanks so much.

nice 2 years, I've been playing for 4 and I do say it was pretty damn good. For the areas where you made little mistakes I usually isolate the lick or line and practice the line itself, then getting into it, then getting into it + line, then line plus getting out then I add that all together and it repairs any mistakes I had before.

I love Scarified just for the simple fact that most of the main lines are pretty much alike so you can sometimes fix a couple things at a time and... cause IT ROCKS

I've been playing for over 20 years and I STILL can't string skip as well as you.

The picking is phenomenal for someone with only a couple of years playing. All round superb

Re: My New Version of SCARIFIED by Paul Gilbert! Mic'd with backing track!

Wow thank you all! That makes me feel great! Chimp asked about my gear so I'll answer that:

My guitar is an Ibanez(duh) RGA321F Prestige. I put a PAF Pro in the Bridge, standard Dimarzio/ibz in th neck. I installed a killswitch in place of the tonepot. Other than that the guitar is standard.

Amp is a Peavey XXX 212 combo. Not the best of all tube amps but I got a good deal on it and its great for now.

Mic'd with a Shure SM57 in that sweet spot between the cone and the rim. Closer o the rim.

That mic runs into the mic input to my Boss BR-600 digital recording studio. No effects running on that. Just right into it.

Next even though doesn't effec he sound of the recording I have a pair of Samson Monitors.

Thanks guys! Curse of Castle Dragon is coming soon, but for now I'm chillin in the Florida keys!

Any questions just ask. Thanks again! I appreciate all comments and love contructive criticism!

Well, I still like you even though you made me want to quit playing guitar after 17 years because I still can't do half of that stuff.

Thanks. That was really cool man. Your Ala Turca video was awesome. Where did you get the tab/backing?

Was the amp in a different room? Did the playback from the monitors bleed back into the mic?

Also, how did you sync the video up with the recording?

Anyways, great job!

Re: My New Version of SCARIFIED by Paul Gilbert! Mic'd with backing track!

Thanks man! No, nothing was in a different room so yes the playback from the monitors did bleed a little bit, but I don't really think its noticeable. You might think that it did because of how well it picked up me saying "scarified" at the beginning" but really I edited the section where I said "Scarified" and I boosted the volume at the part where I said Scarified.
I sync'd the video and audio like this:
My mic was going into the mic input of my BR-600 which was on one track and the backing track went into another input on my Br-600 and onto another track. So when I recorded the song it was actually automatically aligned. You know what I mean? I exported the files onto my computer and put them into Audacity and made it a Stereo track. I then exported that, then put it in windows movie maker. I then took the video file(converted it from mov to avi) and aligned it with the audio. I pretty much just aligned it together with the point where I said "Scarified". Of course I made sure that it was still in sync throughout the video. Look like it is. Anyways, yeah thats bout it. Pretty simple. Thanks again.
