My video of Dream Theater's As I Am solo (first 15 seconds) + Offspring's TKAA solo

I'm still in the process of learning the whole As I am solo but I'd like any criticism for what I've learned so far. The bends at the beggining are pretty off but I could usually get them right. It's just that this video is the best take of the fast parts after it. I might have also played the very last part wrong. In all, I still think it's a decent.

and out of boredom, I recorder the Offspring's The Kids Aren't Alright solo.

I'd suggest slowing the picking down on the DT solo and playing it with the metronome as you go off the click in parts. You're also picking from your elbow as far as I can see (it's difficult to see as the rest of your arm is off the screen), if you find your arm getting tired not long into fast picking runs then i'd really suggest practising usual alternate picking excersises and start picking from your wrist instead. Even if your arm isn't getting tired, I think you should change your technique and make sure you start picking from the wrist.

Keep it up though you're on the right track

I disagree about picking with my wrist. My picking hand never gets tired. It's my fretting hand that gets tired. I have better control picking with my forearm than with my wrist. Anyways, that wrist vs forearm argument it's just a think of preferance so I'll just leave it as that.

I still have alot more work to do though. As it turns out, I was using bad tableture and I have to relearn the whole thing again.

yea keep your picking how it is. there are so many quick players that play differently.

That was good good, but as pointed out your picking hand seems a little "out of control".The pick dosent seem to be tight in with the string...

But certainly it was good.

Re: My video of Dream Theater's As I Am solo (first 15 seconds) + Offspring's TKAA so

The first 10 seconds are the weakest.

1) work on bending in tune
2) work on the vibratto, which corresponds to 1, but also, I see that you are using just your third finger to do the bend. If you use all three, you'll get better stability.
3) the slower phrasing is sloppy
4) the transition into the fast part is jerky

After the 10 second point, you are ripping it up . Good work! You are very good, especially for your age, but I think you are at the point where you need to work on learning how to play the slower parts. You've got the fast parts down.

BTW, I like the Firefox shirt!
