New Project in the making (woodwork = tired)

Ok here we go again, I am determined to do a much better job on painting and actually getting colors to work with each other LOL..

The Red Ibanez GSZ120 which turned into that explosion of color no one wanted including me is now being reworked again.

Today I stripped it all back down and got her sanded down smooth.. I am awaiting grain filler from stew mac something I didnt do last time. So im stuck at this point for the moment.

One thing about this guitar that has always bother me is the lower horn has such a sharp edge on it. So I decided to round and smooth it out by HAND (next time I have an idea like this im going to lay down till it passes)

I wanted it to have more of a PRS kinda feel in that lower horn. And after about 2 hrs of sanding and shaping I got it.. Its hard to tell in the pics but its def radiused.. And now feels much better.

Anyways heres some pictures from today..

Might be a nice idea to round the upper horn bit too.

Keep up the hard work !

I always admire people who have the guts to do it...

Hey man, I thought it was pretty cool actually, except for the bright green pickups didn't really work. So whats the plan for this one?

Re: New Project in the making (woodwork = tired)

Ok here is the first update on it.. The color after several debates will be violet something or other LOL I forget the name of the stain. I have always been a sucker for deep purple stained guitars so it only makes sense. The green TZ/AN will either get bobbin toppers or ill re-order some new ones, and save the green ones for a rainy day..

This is after one coat of the stain, it has a very interesting grain pattern, the only distraction is the 3 piece body but im kinda digging it.. I need to go buy more stain monday so this color will really pop. They say its almost impossible to really see a stains true color till there is some clear coating on it.. That doesnt make sense to me but im willing to believe it LOL.. Ill use one of my favorite sayings "WE SHALL SEE"

Sorry, I don't like it at all. That type of finnish would only look good on a AAA+ bookmatched quilt top.

Not bad, although I have to say I really dug what you did with it originally. If you had made the guitar available for sale internationally I would have thought about making a home for it if shipping, etc was within my price range.

Re: New Project in the making (woodwork = tired)

yeah its not bad looking right now, but thats only one pass with stain, it will need 3-4 passes to achieve the color I want, also it will look alot nicer with the clear.

I was talking to the guys at Rockler Woodworking(huge amateur wood working store) he said that the true color wont happen to the clear is on statement is absolutly true.

He was saying that the stain is basically acting flat once the clear is on its acts the same as if you would put water on a flat paint it shines up and darkens, richens, and brings the color to life.

If anyone has ever put water on a primered piece of wood knows exactly what I/He is talking about.

Soooooo we shall see, worse case scenario is back to stripping and sanding.
