Hey everyone, I know its been a while but I put some new recordings and a clear, non-lagging video up on my myspace at www.myspace.com/mattroberts . Please check it out and give me some feedback. Thanks

Upload them to youtube and you might get more comments

Re: NEW VIDEO AND MP3

Just scroll down, there should be a video right there on the page. If that doesn't allow you to watch it, then here is the link - http://www.veoh.com/videoDetails.html?v=e119055FptPpECR

By the way, I highly recommend that site for hosting. I didn't get the slightest bit of lag with them. I uploaded the same video and I got terrible results.

Amazing technique man. Your alt picking is FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAST! Throwin' in the Michael Jackson near the end was pretty sweet too.

Re: NEW VIDEO AND MP3

Thanks bro. That picking is a result of listening to nothing but Slayer at the age of 14 lol. It comes in handy now though. I try to keep my stuff kinda dynamic, as dynamic as possible anyway, so a little Michael Jackson is necessary

Dude, as so many before you. Don't forget to play music. Some chops are fine, but all chops gets boring everytime. Even by Mr Vai..
Anyway, try to work on your bends (bit off key) and when you incorporate melody into your licks, thumbs up!!

Yeah, I've been working on my bends and stuff. I have a prog metal band, and a solo project type thing, but I didn't really want to videotape any of that. Do you feel that there is a decent amount of melody in my licks?

Re: NEW VIDEO AND MP3

hmmmm... I must agree with Jempy... outstanding mastery of the instrument, but you must still find the style to express yourself through the instrument itself

Re: NEW VIDEO AND MP3

Well, I intended for the vid to be more flashy than musical. I considered filming me playing a ballad or something, but all I have to work with is a small video camera so the sound and mix would have been horrid.

I got the feeling it was just licks. Pretty good ones, but still chops and licks. If you work on different bends and vibrato types (try a wide one, instead of the infamous thrill) big thumbs up here!

You can play flashy and with lots of melody at the same time. I always think that the song scarified of Racer X is a excellent example of playing "hot" and still within the context of a song.

Offcourse if you just wanted to show some chops :-)
