Opinions Please?

This is a new original tune that I just finished. Well, almost finished. The final polishing is yet to take place. The vocalist is Derrick Kinney, a local friend that sings with a band called "Sofa King Chubby". Say that 3 times fast.

Like, hate, indifferent, not enough shred?

Awesome, simply awesome!

I would have preferred a guitar solo somewhere but I'm an old fart so don't listen to me

Thick, wicked and kewl !
IMHO, the vox were kind of... a contrived metal sound, almost forced or not typical of what the singer normally does. (if that makes any sense)

Aside from that, great work as usual.

Man, what a great line, some days that really rings true. Great song too, what gear did you use to record it?

Thanks for the opinions.

All the recording and mixing was done with Pro Tools. I am running all the PT outputs through an analog console with my secret processing patched into the mains, which returns, after the distribution amp, to two of the channels on the PT hardware. That way I can mix right back into the mixdown tracks in my session.

Guitar - Ibanez 2027.
Guitar Amp - Marshall 1978, 50 watt.
Bass - Ibanez 5-string.
Bass Amp - POD... because its all I have.
Drums - Assembled with single shots of each drum and cymbal, using grid mode in PT. Each drum has its own seperate track(s) and processing.
Vocals - Oktava MK 319 into Behringer tube pre-amp and compressor.

Just finished downloading it (dialup, and on leave from work atm so no T1 connection till I go back). F'ing AWESOME BOB!!!
I love the way it starts. The groove on the verse is so catchy, really easy to get into. The chorus is also very catchy in a different way. So cool.

Personally I think the vocal tone suits the song.

I would've loved to hear some sort of vai-esque solo (sex & religion'ish) in the middle there somewhere. But it's sooo fine without it.

That guitar tone wasn't created with just that ibanez going straight into that marshall was it? cause . I can't get my DSL 100 to sound like that!

I'm using a DS-1 in front of the Marshall. Don't have the distortion knob turned up. I'm just using it to boost the gain, as my poor old Marshall comes up short in that department.

Also, on the version you are now downloading, I have re-tracked and am no longer using the 2027. This one is my UV777PBK with Tremol-No installed, which, when locked, killed the trem spring noise. There are a few small bits of the 2027 still in there. I'm lazy.

Thanks for the comments. when one records music, one listens to it so much that the ears get burned and its hard to tell if its worth a damn. your comments help me sort out my thoughts.

I smell a recording contract.

Amazing work Bob! A solo would have been nice, but otherwise just amazing!

I like the double-bass work near the middle. Realy tight sound over all.

For real! that was sick. I liked it a lot, because it just sounded all clean, it didn't sound all mushy like most songs.

Dude,

Bob....tremendous...I have two listens under my belt and fell in love with chorus (@ into, 56 sec and 2:13 ). I love it...excellent tight compressed guitar. My only question would be on the main rhythm part I think the chords could use a compliment that's more pronounced to add a little somthing to that chuggin sound. Maybe a couple complimenting octave bar chords (I know I'm not using the right term here, but I'm talking about power chords with the first and fifth....a and g strings with a muted d whatever they are called). I can't hang out enough to give you nearly as much praise as that song deserves....but is that track on the CD you put out yet?

Ok,

I can't get the tune out of my head. After more consideration, I think the rhythm part stands as it is...

I think it's the vocals on the rhythm part...too borderline cliche' screaming. All in all, better than 85% of the stuff I hear on the radio today. I love it. Can't you convince Chad Kroeger to come down for a weekend.

Actually I know your guy can sing too, I'd like to hear a mix that has more pure voice on it. Either way it rocks.

Bob you're SICK.

Love the guitar tone. Some of the crashes are a little thin to me. I'm not much for that style of singing, but this tune really kicks ass!!

Slightly off topic - But, are you still in transit, Minnesota, Texas? How is the bus coming?
