PART II: The relic-ed strat takes on more of a vintage vibe.. :)

Ok here is the continuing saga of the Squier strat I picked up used for $45..

It started out with one nick, and then I did this..

I then decided it didnt look authentic so I began doing more and more work, doing this and doing that..

It now looks like this, All I need is the switch tip, and pickup covers to age a little more in the coffee soup and I can put her together and let her rip..

I have a Fender waterslide on the way as well

that is a real cigarette burn made by a couple of Marlboro Milds

I know everyone is probably thinking mahhh he just beat it up..

But its details I found by looking at vintage strats. Like:
the pickguard being cleaner under the strings and not as aged
the knobs are slightly rounded over( age does this)
almost every strat has that crack in the guard for the bass side neck screw
Bridge is more faded and tarnished, then corroded, where the neckplate and tuners are
Screws are all corroded but to different degrees around where they would be in contact the most.
etc etc..

I will say this Hardware aging is a pain in the arse, and takes patience and finding the right recipe of destruction.. Chrome doesnt like to wear..

I will also say this is a art form and I plan on doing another, and have learned a ton from my mistakes

change the tuners and saddles to vintage spec.

also, do some light wet-sanding over your paint relic'ing. the hard edges of the paint make it look too deliberate.
