As requested, here are a couple of sound files I generated to help others know the capabilities of the
Peavey Classic 30 amp.
First: I was only aimlessly doodling to show the sound of the amp! This is not how I play! LOL. I wanted to share what the amp's sounds are like but I don't have a lot of time right now due to studying for a test, but nevertheless thought I'd share "something" in the hopes it may help a few with their first (or not first) tube amp selection. This is my first tube amp and I am pumped about it!
If you want, I can record better files when I have more time, ...but this is better than nothing for now. Just let me know if the files aren't good enough, or if you wanna hear a more coherent "song" rather than aimless doodling.
I recorded one file for the cleans and one for the lead channel called "dirty". As someone requested, I played my custom Herc Swirl. The swirlee has a Norton in the bridge, Air Norton in the Neck and the ISCV-2 in the middle position. I have a coil tap via push/pull pot and show off the tapped sound in the clean demonstration.
For the clean sound file the
amp settings were as follows:
Normal Channel Volume: 2.5 (out of 12 - this applies to all settings)
Reverb: 5
Bass: 8
Mid: 7
Treble: 8
The clean file was played with various pickup settings throughout the file.
For the dirty sound file, the amp settings were as follows:
Reverb: 4.5
Bass: 7.5
Mid: 6
Treble: 6
Pre and Post Volumes were manipulated to get a range of different distorted sounds. Then, when the guitar is played clean, the amp was switched BACK to the Normal channel (clean) and driven with a Boss DS-1 set at 9:00, 12:00 and then Full blast.
There are NO EFFECTS on these recordings. Only the amp's on board Reverb, and the Boss DS-1. That's it. I did that for the explicit purpose of demonstrating the amp's sounds, not the effect's sounds.
I did have a little trouble with the input levels into my recording software. For some reason the signal was very hot, but the channel volume when recorded was not nearly as hot. I have to learn about this as this is my first time recording with a live mic and amp. I have formerly used Line6 products that have direct in capability, ...and they work great for recording software, ...very easy. So, please understand those personal limitations I had during this recording. Mic placement greatly affects the recorded sound as well, and I have no experience in this realm. I placed the mic about 4" away from the amp front, and pointed directly at the speaker, offset about 4-6" from the center of the speaker cone (this was per a friends advice who records daily).
I think that the "dirty" file at some points sounds a little muffled. I can assure you this is NOT the amp, but my recording limitations due to lack of knowledge! LOL. The amp sounded insanely incredible in the room, ...I promise! Don't be afraid of this amp if you notice that and it bothers you. Some of that also has to do with the difference in the bridge and neck positions (the only two I used on the dirty sound settings).
Well, enough said. Here are the files:
