Peavey Classic 30 Sound Samples

As requested, here are a couple of sound files I generated to help others know the capabilities of the Peavey Classic 30 amp.

First: I was only aimlessly doodling to show the sound of the amp! This is not how I play! LOL. I wanted to share what the amp's sounds are like but I don't have a lot of time right now due to studying for a test, but nevertheless thought I'd share "something" in the hopes it may help a few with their first (or not first) tube amp selection. This is my first tube amp and I am pumped about it!

If you want, I can record better files when I have more time, ...but this is better than nothing for now. Just let me know if the files aren't good enough, or if you wanna hear a more coherent "song" rather than aimless doodling.

I recorded one file for the cleans and one for the lead channel called "dirty". As someone requested, I played my custom Herc Swirl. The swirlee has a Norton in the bridge, Air Norton in the Neck and the ISCV-2 in the middle position. I have a coil tap via push/pull pot and show off the tapped sound in the clean demonstration.

For the clean sound file the amp settings were as follows:
Normal Channel Volume: 2.5 (out of 12 - this applies to all settings)
Reverb: 5
Bass: 8
Mid: 7
Treble: 8

The clean file was played with various pickup settings throughout the file.

For the dirty sound file, the amp settings were as follows:
Reverb: 4.5
Bass: 7.5
Mid: 6
Treble: 6
Pre and Post Volumes were manipulated to get a range of different distorted sounds. Then, when the guitar is played clean, the amp was switched BACK to the Normal channel (clean) and driven with a Boss DS-1 set at 9:00, 12:00 and then Full blast.

There are NO EFFECTS on these recordings. Only the amp's on board Reverb, and the Boss DS-1. That's it. I did that for the explicit purpose of demonstrating the amp's sounds, not the effect's sounds.

I did have a little trouble with the input levels into my recording software. For some reason the signal was very hot, but the channel volume when recorded was not nearly as hot. I have to learn about this as this is my first time recording with a live mic and amp. I have formerly used Line6 products that have direct in capability, ...and they work great for recording software, ...very easy. So, please understand those personal limitations I had during this recording. Mic placement greatly affects the recorded sound as well, and I have no experience in this realm. I placed the mic about 4" away from the amp front, and pointed directly at the speaker, offset about 4-6" from the center of the speaker cone (this was per a friends advice who records daily).

I think that the "dirty" file at some points sounds a little muffled. I can assure you this is NOT the amp, but my recording limitations due to lack of knowledge! LOL. The amp sounded insanely incredible in the room, ...I promise! Don't be afraid of this amp if you notice that and it bothers you. Some of that also has to do with the difference in the bridge and neck positions (the only two I used on the dirty sound settings).

Well, enough said. Here are the files:

Once you click the link, the file takes a minute to be accessed for download. Look for the link that says "DON'T LIKE WAITING". After a few seconds the file will show up with a download link there. Kinda sucks, but it's the first place I could get free space easily.

Re: Peavey Classic 30 Sound Samples

Here is a better dirty sample, with better playing for sure. Sorry that I had some input level clipping. I retracked it and it got better but still a little high on the input apparently. Was going to retrack but some guy down the road with a ham radio just blared over my amp! That makes it unplayable. Dunno what I'm going to do about that. I'll retrack this soon, when it's daylight and there's no interference. Maybe you can glean the good past the clipping.

Re: Peavey Classic 30 Sound Samples

The playing on the first dirty file is just embarrasing, ...lol. So, I will apply myself and make much better files tonight guys. If you're interested in this amp, stay tuned...I'll get the recording thing figured out and play some decent stuff. I was in way too big a hurry last night.

Re: Peavey Classic 30 Sound Samples

Okay, this should be easier on the ears. I only got to track a few clean tracks tonight. I used the RGT320QRBB for this one and played 3 different times, ...one in the bridge position, one in the strat position (one up from bridge), and one in the neck position.

I also used a little chorus this time since I found the stomp for it (I haven't used it in years) and was enjoying it so much. Amp settings were as follows:

Normal Channel volume: 1.5 (hey, it's like 1:20am here! lol had to be quiet)
Reverb: 4.5
Bass: 7
Mid and Treble: 9

I love the way this guitar sounds, ...especially in the strat position! I really love the cleans on this amp. They are quite impressive to me. Enjoy. I'll try to get some more distorted tracks done tomorrow.

Re: Peavey Classic 30 Sound Samples

Here's a better track for the rythym distortion. I should have used a hotter tone for the lead, probably on the lead channel of the amp. I used the same settings for both rythym and lead, and that led to the lead sounding a little small and lacking. But, there are also no effects added to it either. No delay, etc. Just on board reverb and DS-1. I did copy the tracks in the recording software and put it in stereo for some fun.

http://www.soundclick.com/util/getpl...d=5867701&q=hi

Boss DS-1: Tone at about 10:00, Distortion at about 2:00.

Amp was on Normal channel with the Boss DS-1 driving it. Settings on amp:

Normal Volume: 2
Reverb: 4
Bass: 7
Mid: 7
Treble: 7

Re: Peavey Classic 30 Sound Samples

I retracked using the same rythym track again, but using the lead channel on the Classic 30 and no Boss DS-1. This is more like it. (only two tracks this time, no file duplication for stereo effect).

Amp Settings:
Pre: 10.5
Post: 2
All other settings same as the first run in previous post. Let me know what you think about these Classic 30 tones! I know I missed some stuff song wise, but right now I don't care, lol. I love this amp.
