Phone salesman amazes the crowd.....

It's some sorta "American Idol" type program in the UK.
I have no idea when it was taped or aired.

While I'm not a huge opera fan, I can... and do appreciate the tremendous amount of talent those guys (and ladies) have.

This ordinary guy has a set of pipes that could go up against anyone in the business.

The performance actually moved me, I thought I'd pass it on to you guys.

I saw this a while ago, and I have to say it was a true heartfelt moment for me. While I don't particularly like opera music, that was a beautiful piece, and I think that guy really got to accomplish something amazing, to be doing phone sales like that all your life with no musical experience(at least I don't think he had any?) and then to get up on stage in front of thousands of people and have a reaction like that is amazing!!!

It was taped quite a while back, and the guy actually won the whole thing and now has a CD out, and sang the anthem at the Giants vs. Dolphins game at Wembley Stadium.

He's very good for a member of the public, but he's not even a touch on professional opera singers.

The word professional gets thrown around alot, and I don't think it has a place when your concerning music or the Arts. Its all subjective. All Artists never stop practising and learning, usually untill they die. Its not like Steve Vai, learnt guitar and after a certain point he said. Ok im a professional, i can stop learning...

The Arts is an ongoing thing and i highly doubt anyone on this planet has ever completed an Artform to its fullest extent before they pass on. Its ever evolving and no one man or women can do this, but humanity as a whole can. Thats why there is room for every human to practise an Art form, theres always room for one more, muso or painter or scuplture.

The word professional Artists only refers to being paid for their Art.. IMO

I think you can certainly separate professionals from amateurs by definition, but have too many pages of EU Constitutional Law to read to come up with a long-winded explanation why

But, if you're right, then I'd settle for calling Paul Potts a mediocre to good singer.
