pics of my strat project.
Well I thought I'd post some pics of my strat project. I'm just getting started.
The neck is a Mighty Mite with
Ebony fretboard
and
Jumbo frets
.
It's comes in satin finish but I decided to laquer it. In the first photo there is tape on the neck near the headstock because I was done laquering the back but wanted to add a few more coats to the headstock.
I tried two waterslide decals I orderd from **** and both of them didn't work for me so I made my own peel and stick decal. The paper is nice and thin and I was able to print it with an inkjet printer with good results. It took several coasts of laquer and wet sanding to get the decals to blend in. In the photo below the headstock is clear coated and wet sanded, it just needs to be polished.
The body is an Ash strat type body from KnE guitars in the USA.
Now I'm waiting for some hardware to arrive so I can fit everything together before I finish the body. If anyone is interested I can post more photos as I progress. Thanks for looking.

Hey Rotti, looks like it's going to be a good project. How do you find the quality of the Mighty mite neck. how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? I would love to see more pics as you move along. The decal looks great, nice job. Is this the project you bought the grain filler for. chef21

Looks very promising. What colour do you plan to use?
Good luck with the rest of the work.

wow the headstock looks very nice - good work on the lacquering. is that water based? did you spray or hand coat?

Re: pics of my strat project.
The MM neck is very nice. I got this one for around $79.00 on the auction site. There is almost no finish on it when you get it, you could feel the edge of a couple of the
dot inlays
. I sanded them down. You could feel the fret edges a little but some wet sanding fixed that. Now it's just a matter of how it will play once it's all set up. I think it's gonna play wicked nice. I should mention that I stained the neck a little too. It was very white and new looking so I stained it with a little "golden Wheat" stain to tint it.
Yes this is the project I bought grain filler for. I should do that soon.
As for color I was planing on going Daphne Blue. Now I'm having second thoughts so it might be Daphne blue, and it might not.
No the Laquer isn't water based. It's an oil based laquer in a spray can.
Thanks for the replies, and I will post more pics as I take them.

I love the tone of ash bodied guitars. The headstock is looking great. Are you going all vintage with the hardware? Please humbucker in the bridge! mini
tone zone
for the win

Re: pics of my strat project.
looks great. have you considered a transparent finish to highlight that beautiful body? i think a nice dark blue would be killer with a
white pickguard
. nice work
whats that tele you've got?

Re: pics of my strat project.
I thought about a trans finish but the joint on the two peice ash body is not down the center, it's off to one side so I thought it might not look so good.
As for pickups I haven't bought them yet so that is up in the air. A humbucker of some kind in the bridge would be cool though. As long as it fits in the single coil route.

Re: pics of my strat project.
Neck is finished, it looks much shinier in person. It's hard to photograph somehting shiny like that.
And a closeup of the frets in case anyone was wondering about the MM necks.
