Proof that you can make good recordings on a budget

Here's my new song. "Somnia Elliptica". I think for what I payed for everything I'm using...it sounds pretty damn good. I mean the Jem was a grand, but aren't they all?

Agree with Onion. But I'd lower the backing guitar, and raise the bass and snare drums.

Dude...you're really good. You people make me sick! The only things I didn't like was, like Ibateur said, bring up the bass and I didn't really care for the drum sound that much. If you'd like, I could try to duplicate your drum track with the program I use to see how it would sound. Otherwise, wow!

Re: Proof that you can make good recordings on a budget

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm 18 so I really haven't dealt much with the mixing process at getting good levels of everything. And currently I don't have a bass guitar anymore...so there ISN'T a bass in any of my songs yet.

I am working on mixing this song according to your guys' feedback I've gotten so far.

But my recording equipment was DIRT CHEAP. I use a behringer v-amp pro ($100), I bought a decent DELL at a thrift store for $100 bucks...monitor keyboard everything, plus DVD player and cdrw drive and 40 GB HD. What I actually use to record only cost me about 250 or so all together...not including my guitar and wah pedal.

mi2tom, what program do you use? I'm using PC drummer with just different WAV files for the kit that I've put together. It sucks - there's no way to actaully adjust the equalization of each peice in the kit without actually taking each wave file and editing it and saving it as a new one.

Re: Proof that you can make good recordings on a budget

mi2tom didn't mention drums That was me. I use a program called "Drums!" from www.guitar.sk . It costs $50 and it uses real recorded drum samples and there are several kits and different stuff. I like to mix n' match. There's an edit feature where you can modify the drum, EQ, reverb, pitch all in a seperate window, then you just save it and reload. I went and did like the first minute and a half of the song with this program and it sounds really cool. You don't have this song available to actually download so I can't put it together for you to hear it for yourself. And I have a bass, too I genuinely like this song and would love to be somehow involved with it
