Quick VideoJam - PWH, Floyd

So since Tubarao Guitars was asking me to post up a video of me playing something on my beat-to-hell PWH the other night, I got off work today (apologies in advance for the khakis and oxford shirt, they're really not that metal) and pulled up a backing for the outro solo to "Comfortably Numb" I'd recorded a while back, and just sort of let loose for about two and a half minutes.

It's a little sloppy in places, and there's a few mistakes here and there, and I might have poured myself a bourbon before I hit play, but whatever. I actually recorded two takes, this one, and then after I realized I'd hit "play" instead of "record" on my multitracker (I had my amp mic'd up), another one, but I ran out of memory on my camera halfway through so I went with the first track. I just mixed a bit more of the backing in as a second track so you could hear it better.

Anyway, it's a 14MB download, so listener beware...

Not your best playing, but still not bad. Peterson tuner FTW.

Re: Quick VideoJam - PWH, Floyd

Thanks dude - that's my Rectoverb combo, EL34's, Modern mode, treble and prescense all the way down (it sounds crazy, but try it), mids at maybe 2:30, and bass at about 11 o'clock, with the channel volume pretty low and the master at about 11 o'click, with a Hot Plate with bright and deep engaged keeping the volume sane with a -16db cut. There's a Bodenhamer Electronics Chaos Mod TS9 out front set for unity gain and the slightest amount of grit, and a Line6 DL4 in the effects loop set for a medium ambient digital delay. Since I forgot to hit record, the guitar sound was picked up by the mic on my camera (sitting on top of my amp), but it's actually not a horrible recording of the sound of my amp "in the room," to be honest.

Micro, call it stage fright - this is the closest thing to a gig I've played in a year and a half.

Re: Quick VideoJam - PWH, Floyd

I'm the same way. I literally play 10x better when I'm not recording and no one's watching. I wish I could overcome that somehow.

Re: Quick VideoJam - PWH, Floyd

I'm getting better recording - it's just a question of clearing your head and really losing yourself within the guitar, somehow - but I've never recorded a video before so I felt a bit self conscious.

Clearly, I need to gig more. I miss being on stage. :/

Re: Quick VideoJam - PWH, Floyd

The neck and bridge are the stock Blazes - the middle is a custom Frank Falbo wound single, but I didn't use it in this clip.

Re: Quick VideoJam - PWH, Floyd

Yikes, holy bump, lol. I actually forgot this was still on my FTP...

Yeah, I absolutely love that Rectoverb. It still shocks me just how varied the sounds you can get out of the gain channel are - this was either vintage or modern mode, I don't remember, and it's definitely more "my" sort of tone, but you can get into pretty authentic Gilmour territory on the raw mode... It's a seriously underappreciated amp.
