Satch plays the blues (and The Extremist)

Check it out, guys. This is kinda cool. He plays a really cool, bluesy intro and then he goes into 'The extremist'. He played this @ The North sea Jazz festival, out here in The Netherlands in 1997, I think. I actually sent the TV station who aired it an e-mail a long time ago, asking if they would rerun the show, but they basically said it wasn't going to happen any time soon.

This version of 'The Extremist' is kind of cool. It's a bit slower.

He really needs to polish that guitar a tad.

Yeah, I think it's Pearly, as well. I guess the nickname came from it's SD Pearly Gates neck humbucker. It's a shame, isn't it? I remember Satriani.com's webmaster posting a message there, about how Joe just wanted his guitar back. It's a shame.

Anyway, that's pretty tasteful blues playing, there, eh? I love that first solo guitar section!

Re: Satch plays the blues (and The Extremist)

I did not like the bluesy intro! Satch can do way better than that!!!
I have both heard and seen him do better!

That's not blues. "Down, Down, Down" is blues. That, I don't know what that is.

Microdmitry...I can't believe you are saying that that isn't blues. I've heard Andy Timmons and Satch play 'House full of bullets' once and I thought it wasn't blues. But Waylay00 put me in my place. I have to say I don't think I'm wrong this time, though.

Re: Satch plays the blues (and The Extremist)

I dunno if i'm off base here, but could it be possible the stolen guitar could be a lie to stop Satch from using Seymour Duncan pickups on stage? i know it sounds ridiculous but the amount of money in endorsements were talking about is alot. Also, since the incident, Satch has not replaced the axe with any other using Duncan pickups. It just seems a coincidence that the only guitar stolen was the one with Duncans and that Satch has a major endorsement deal with Dimarzio.

i doubt that is the case. he was using the seymour duncan because he wanted slightly more output for certain songs. but then he just went to dimarzio and had them create mo joe and paf joe. i believe these now satiate his evolving quest for tone, at least pickup-wise.
