Satriani and Grace Potter

Was looking for obscure Satriani tracks and covers and found this, most of you probably know it already but I was really impressed and it was awesome to hear Satch with a vocalist like Grace

Awesome find... thats the real difference between Vai and Satriani. Vai doesn't know how to keep to a melody when soloing/improvisation.

Satch played every right note and left out all the wrong ones.

Satch sure can play. I think he uses simplicity better than anyone else.

And I like how he makes the trumpet player look like a hack without talent. It's funny.

Man, Satch was in the zone and playing with his emotions on his finger tips, and then he had to close it with that raked harmonic, ugh!!!!!!!

Man quit drinking lol
Both are masters !

The main difference between them is Satch is always playing his own licks inside of chord progressions where he feels confortble.
Vai plays anything from ballads to crazy out of this world stuff.
I'm not picking Vai as a better guitarist cause you know everybody got their own tastes, some love Satch some love Vai and some even love Hammett bwahahahaha
But that's the main difference between them. One is quiet and the other one is crazy lol

The talk about Vai and Satch just makes me think of how much wan-king Yngwie would whip out in this song. Haha

Re: Satriani and Grace Potter

Id have to say that I think Satriani handled this better than the V man would have! Only because I think this tune requires more subtle emotion and not too much flamboyncy, the kind that you should be able to play drunk if that makes any sense!haha!

Different - not better. There is no "correct" way to solo over a part. Both have different tastes and explore different directions.

I remember when people were saying this new kid Jimi Hendrix was a no-talent wacko too.

You know Vai did a good job with Nelly Furtado at the Grammies a few years ago. He was not flamboyant at all.

good point I guess! I just think for the kind of progression this is, it needed sublte emotional accompanyment and vai's tone and emotion as a 'stock part' if you like, did that quite elequently.Funny that Im defending Satch here when I'm a much bigger Vai fan and dont really listen to any Satriani these days haha!
