S2540? all though it looks like it has 24 frets...Well, anyways I'm glad it was a Ibanez, I bet any other guitar would have just burst into flames halfway during that solo...

I think it was his custom. It had 24 frets.

Hey Wade did you hear about Willjay's YouTube account getting shut down?

Re: Shawn Lane ripping the crap out of an Ibanez S Series

Hmmmm. It was technically amazing, but I think it was just a bit too much "Watch me shred it."

He was way to quick to the speed soloing. It's like a highschool dude on prom night, he was just too fast with her and niether of them made love. That's how I feel about a lot of fusion musicians anyway. Especially sax players. It's always up the scale down the scale as much as possible.

Just my opinon though. Can't deny that as far as hands go, beyond 99% of guitar players out there.

I know he died, and we should show respect but I don't think that means I have say he was the best thing ever. I meant no disrespect, no harm, just what I thought about the video.

Re: Shawn Lane ripping the crap out of an Ibanez S Series

Fine, but Shawn wasn't all about shredding, he was one of the few guitarists that genuinely put a lot of soul into his playing. Shawn is the only guitarist to make my girlfriend cry! (In a good way). If he was a mindless shredder like some people suggest, that wouldn't happen.

It's just great to see the guy ripping the hell out of a guitar. No one could do it better.

In that clip it was just shredding to my ears. I can't speak for his whole catalog of music.

Sure, I understand where you're coming from. The thing is, I doubt he came on stage and started shredding like crazy at the start of the gig. That part of the show could have just been a highlight. I haven't heard how that particular live set built up to that point, but I have plenty of live Shawn Lane shows on my PC and it's not like him to just shred like a loony right off the bat. On the contrary, his shows usually built up more slowly, there were lots of changes in style and plenty of variation in his playing, and the "peaks" were spread out.

His catalog is hugely varied. In fact he would switch styles dramatically on just one album, from fairly straight-ahead almost "pop" sounding tracks (take "Get You Back" from the Powers Of Ten album, for example, which is an incredible song) to full on orchestral pieces, mind-blowing piano compositions, and everything in between. The guy was a musical genius, and I really don't like to throw that word around lightly. Shawn Lane deserves it, though. He was a unique musician, and a totally sweet guy who is still severely under appreciated. So sad.

I believe you and I would like to hear it. I'm not anti Shawn Lane. I'm just not into it, yet. It may not change but you never know. Just to say it again, he's talented and as far as I can see an extraordinarily gifted guitarist. I still however, as of right now at 3:56pm JST would rather hear Joe Satriani play Circles.
