Re: smooth shredding

looks like it was sped-up (sp/gr?) And besides, who could listen to any of this type of shredding for more then 40 seconds

Re: smooth shredding

That was like sped up double normal time.

If you did that to me playing, it might look about Steve Vai's normal speed!!!

Re: smooth shredding

normally, i won't write "speed isn't everything," or something along those lines because i think people say that just to hide their jealousy ( come on, would you be mad at yourself for being the fastest player? ), but that truly is unlistenable, sped-up or not, whatever it is haha

Re: smooth shredding

That is obviously sped up. Rusty Cooley can't even play that fast.

Nice guitar; the playing sounded like a broken blender.

Re: smooth shredding

Wow that sounded bad. I don't think you'll ever need to play so fast that your notes aren't even distinguishable from each other.

Unhappy

Re: smooth shredding

Not that I'm normally a fan of shredding, but man, that was exceptionally horrendous.

I'm sure we've all heard the claim that, given enough time and a typewriter, a monkey typing at random would eventually churn out the collected works of Shakespeare. Well, this is like all of the stuff in between.

Re: smooth shredding

The guy can play. He can shred. I'm impressed of course.

I mean we can go on and on about how it's not musical or whatever, but yet all of us do strive to gain a fair bit of chops to shred. What's up with that?

All the guy did was post a video of his technical prowess. I give him a thumbs up for possessing such chops.

The authenticity of the video is debatable of course. But then again when EVH came on the scene and played his two handed stuff, he did it with his back facing audiences, no one believed him.

I admit it's not really musical per se, most of it is way too fast to be even remotely audible, but I'd still like to hear this fella in a musical context. With such chops he could be quite a killer guitarist.

Thumbs down

Re: smooth shredding

Well...

I must say I'm pretty impressed if this is real. But when I say that, it's _strictly_ technical...

That thing was just horrible. I guess we can go on and on about what you like and i don't and blablabla, but I quote: "the playing sounded like a broken blender"...

We strive to get some fast licks because speed when used correctly is very incredible and can provide a song with just the right kick in the correct moment. my favourite use of some speed is the cowboys from hell solo, dime kept it short but sweet. sure there are people that can play waaaay more complex things more quickly, but they never can use it to lift a solo like dime!!
