Cool

Solo Videos from a few of my band's songs.

Yes folks as the title says it...

I've captured 2 videos of me doing solos from my bands songs, the first one is from a song called Sunrise...
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=55U55OWN

Here's the second one, it's from a song of our's called "You got a thang on me", a nice bluesy rock number with the "Purple haze Hendrix chord inside".
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WP8IG9PC

Please excuse the sound quality, my digital camera is an entry level model, broke university students can't afford that much of great gear. I'm using my UV777BK, through a Boss GT5 and a Fender Bronco.

The floral's with my tech right now in the midst of refret...she's coming back soon!

Hope you guys dig our music

Christopher.

Oh yeah, sorry I forgot to mention, you need quicktime to view the videos, they're in .mov format.

I'll say something. I listened to the "got that thang" solo and I gotta say, you got speed, you got technique, you got the chops, you know your scales, you play with aggression and you got some superb guitars.

The challenge I want to lay down to you is to think about your phrasing, think about developing a feel, think about what notes you land on and think about what the rhythm behind you is doing.

Keep up the good work.

I would love to download your videos right now as I'm awaiting delivery of my UV777PBK and would love to see and hear one while I'm waiting (I'm worse than a kid at Christmas time), but I don't have QT here at work. I'll download them at home and post back with my thoughts.

Okay I got home and played the videos- very cool! Good chops. I thought on "You Got a Thang On" you sounded a little rushed it a few spots. It's kind of a bluesy tune and I think if you had played just a hair behind the beat it would have worked a little better- it was like you were focused on blazing away in a few spots and got a little ahead of yourself. Some very cool licks, though. On "Sunrise", I thought your timing was much better. Good playing! Beautiful UV, man, I was hoping mine had arrived today, but no luck. I'll just watch your vids and dream...

Re: Solo Videos from a few of my band's songs.

Sigh any ideas on how I can improve my phrasing?

I tend to just play like pentatonic shapes with added chromatics and major minor scale notes in between, I've never really paid attention to like what notes to play over what chords. Does it have to do with modes or whatever?

The progression is pretty basic actually, Emin to Amin followed by the Bmin Cmin thing at the end where I played some chromatics.

As far as chops goes, I think it's nothing special, anyone could get chops, it's all muscle memory and basic physical mechanics. Thanks so much for the comments. But you know sometimes I feel that it's my evident lack of note choice that I rely on shred to get through. Not a very wise choice.

Like Steve Morse once said "Now that everyone can play fast let's see who can play good." I really wish I could gain a firmer understanding on this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Want to improve your phrasing? buy the Scott Henderson's REH videos. Great advices, great exercises.

Thanks for the advice Dangomles...I have the one called melodic phrasing or melodic control, the title escapes my mind right now.

Eric Johnson- Total Electric Guitar volumes 1 and 2. The first came out in 1990 on Hot Licks and the other was 1996. The first one is a GREAT video.
