Re: Songs that give ya the chills at times..

Well,i've been thinking about this!!
Different songs for different reasons,but some of my "moments" are;
For The Love of God (kinda obvious i suppose!)
Is There Love In Space (Satch)(specially when the solo kicks in at 2.25)
The Forgotten ptII (Satch)
Kashmir (Led Zep)
In The Light (Led Zep)
Bron-Yr-Aur (Led Zep)
In My Time Of Dying (Led Zep)
Ah Via Musicom (Eric Johnson)
Doomsday Celebration (Morbid Angel)
The Blessed Dead (Nile)
Iowa (Slipknot)
Flying In A Blue Dream (Satch)

And to REALLY get those hairs standing up..........
Into The Light (Satch)
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pink Floyd)

It doesn't matter...

you probably don't like Vai because he uses the ballerina, crazy wah stuff and lots of other effects, you don't like Satriani because he uses loads of effects too, you don't like Dimebag because he used a whammy pedal, morello etc etc

I never saw anybody using effects as satriani uses them...searching is an awesome song.

I like Mr Vai when he uses less effects though, anyway to my opinion effects are a way to cheat in your playing, I hate em, this why I like paul gilbert a lot, he rarely uses em,

Re: Songs that give ya the chills at times..

I never saw anybody that didn't like Van Halen, Vai, Satriani, Morello, Dimebag, etc just because they use or used fx...

"Van Halen!! You used a flanger on the begining of that song!! That shows that you're a bad guitarist and you try to cover your lack of inspiration or technique with fx!! You don't know how to begin songs!!"

But that's ok, everybody has their own opinion and that should be respected.

Yeah! Uncle Gilbert is a master even without fx, you're right!

Not really so much a song as a single note. I love "For The Love Of God" anyway, but there's the one note he plays at 1:02 where he does the pinch harmonic bend on the 12th fret G and it fades back into the original note as he holds it. That is my favorite Vai note of all time

Boston - Hitch A Ride

It goes without saying that the entire solo section to this song is a melodic masterpiece, but when the rhythm guitar starts doing the power chords underneath Barry's soloing, that's when the chills hit me.

I don't know if ya'll listen to death metal, but anything by Nile gets you in a wierd mood. They are a band that plays with a heavy Eygptian flavor and do some chilling solos.

the first five chords on "I, Voyager" by nevermore will make me up.

Another Vote for Watermelons in Easter Hay by FZ. The vamp is so simple and pleasing it makes the melody leap out at you. The whole step bends are to die for. Go get Joe's Garage right now if you havent already.

I read somewhere that "Wasted Time" was written (inspired by) about Steven Adler the drummer from G n' R.

Russians - Sting

Man, there's some deep meaning in this song. Very powerful, smartly written.

Re: Songs that give ya the chills at times..

Yes....

Let's hope STing is right and the Russians do love there children.

Actually that is a wicked tune.
Thanks for reminding me.... It's been 11 years and i totally forgot
about that tune. Super cool
Even Duran duran the chauffeur is a wicked tune.

What really gives me hair on edge would be some of the Guitar Masters..

Marty Friedman - Forbidden city & Angel (super solo's)
Satriani - Time & Echo
Vai - Touching tongues
and my Pops for sure..... Has been a player for over 30 years.....
A big Thanks to him... ever since I was a wee little one for introducing me to
the guitar....

Thanks Dad
