I think Ry Cooder did some of the blues stuff...

Vai played the parts, Macchio made the money. Seems like an even split

Huh?? Nice try.

Actually Vai only played his parts. Ralphs parts were played by his guitar coach Arlen Roth, and by Ry Cooder and Bill Kanengiser (Bill did the classical runs).

This is one of my favorite Guitar Movies ever, of course the Guitar showdown is now legendary but the plot of the movie itself has a lot say and teach you about
playing which is why I really love it.

...wait...the movie had a plot?

It was a cool movie, let's hope someone makes a sequel with, say, Satriani as the man on a mission and Paul Gilbert being the devil's axeman and there could be a lot more playing throughout...say showing several scenes with Gilbert cutting heads with other real guitarists (Malmsteen, VH, etc.) and defeating them as Joe goes through his journey to get there.

All I'm going to say is that there is a lesson to be learned by guitar players in that movie, that is what I meant with my previous post.

I got the dvd a few weeks ago at best buy. It was on sale for $9.99 in the drama section.
Every best buy I've been to has it in stock so you shouldn't have a problem finding it

Sweet. I'm gonna go check out Best Buy soon then. I love that movie. That was the first time I'd ever heard of Steve Vai, because a friend of mine was telling me about the movie and I was like "Who is Steve Vai?". This was probably 1989 or so. I don't even think Passion and Warfare was out yet. One of my favorite movies of all time though. Right up there with "Christine" and "Pee Wee's Big Adventure"

Re: Steve Vai VS Ralph Macchio in CrossRoads

I like the way the old blues guy says to Machio's character "A blues guitarist from Long Island New York..now I've seen everything.." or something like that..

And where is Steve from? Long Island!!

OK, so Steve ain't a blues guitarist, but I though it was funny..

*chuckles to self. Leaves thread.

Re: Steve Vai VS Ralph Macchio in CrossRoads

I love it. I was just listening to a Vai boot and electric slide player Eric Sardinas joined him on "My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama".

It gave me a thought:

How about Vai vs. Sardinas in a "Eugene's Trick Bag" type head-cutting?
(that is, if they go on tour again)

Re: Steve Vai VS Ralph Macchio in CrossRoads

That's the intro to Bad Horsie!!! In the first clip! Wow! Lol I saw that film like, 2 years ago, before I heard Bad Horsie. Mental.
And is it just me, or does Dave's solo from the Vai DVD have a bit of that Ralph Maccio (or whatever) open-stringed stuff in it???
