Sweet Home Alabama...post your band's version here

On the "Are You Gigging" thread http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60472

somebody mentioned butchering Sweet Home Alabama and somebody else mentioned that their band does it too - I figured pretty much every band does it, so why not play it proudly for the world to hear!

Here's my wedding band doing it:

http://www.invisibleband.com/KFB-SHA.mp3

Drummer singing, guitar solo 1 is my guitar player, the outro solo is me (was probably playing the J-Custom that night).

come on boys - hold up your confederate flags proudly!

I did a "metal" version at an open mic last summer, the guy running sound said he'd never heard a metallica version of SHA but I did good job of pulling it off

Re: Sweet Home Alabama...post your band's version here

I liked the "southern man" part when he made fun of Neil Young's voice

I personally like the song and actually don't try to play the solos note for note if I can avoid it. It is a very well written song with some really cool back beat southern swamp boogie rhythms (say that ten times fast). I rarely hear a band get the rhythm right.

I'll get our version recorded and PROUDLY post it. We probably still butcher it but I try to show respect for the well written and performed song it truley is.

I've been playing that song with my current band for close to 4yrs (just changed out two band members - all for the better) and I still like to play it after probably over 100 times a year.

I'll fly my Southern Rock flag high and proud

The smiley IS because you know it was about Young's song "Southern Man" and not his voice, right? Just checking. I might have had to ask you to hand your Southerner Card back in! Although, because of the northern retirees living there, Florida could go either way.......

Wasn't Skynyrd from Florida? Gainsville?

Of course I knew that but he did it during the part that actually speaks directly to Young which made it more fitting

Skynyrd is from Jacksonville and so is 38 Special and I think Molly Hatchet is too. Gainesville is home to Tom Petty, Sister Hazel, 4 Squirrels and now Blackfoot.

I knew you knew, just kidding around. Plus, I spaced. You were referring to Kenny's singer doing the NY voice. It was funny!
Wow, Blackfoot! Saw them in the late 70's with Stillwater (remember the song "Mindbender" with the talkbox?) in Jackson, TN. Jackson Coliseum, at my old high school. Also saw Shawn Lane play with Black Oak Arkansas there.

Train, train, take me on out of this town......
