"The Doctrine of Cthulhu"

This is my first real recording. It has no bass, and bad drums. The drums are probably the worst part. The mix is pretty thin as a whole, I think.

It was my attempt at something prog metal. I'd appreciate your feedback.

Re: "The Doctrine of Cthulhu"

I amost didn't listen to it because it had Cthulhu in the title. LOL. Glad I did though.

Comments on the mixing:
You're right about the drums. I think the drums need more definition (boom on the kick, and snap on the snare). I assume these are loops or samples. The power of well placed kicks outweighs doing the double-bass stuff all over the place. I'm not sure if incessant double-bass is actually part of the Cthulhu genre. The bells and cymbals, you can control a bit as well in the mix.

The guitar does not seem EQ'ed at all, or everything is flat. I'm not too fond of the tone there. The notes don't always come out clearly.

But I enjoyed the riffage. Something really fun about it that I can't put my finger on. Hope to hear it again soon with improved drums/mixing.

Re: "The Doctrine of Cthulhu"

Nice ideas in there!

The guitars sound a bit thin. Don't know. Maybe you don't have to fix them after having a real boomy bass guitar there.

Yepp, the drums are a really weak link here. Doesn't sound like real drums at all. I do all the drums with my computer but I always try to make them sound as real as I can. Quite fast double bass drums there. Are you hiring Hellhammer or Faust to play those parts?

Enjoyed this song. Was a bit too short IMO.

Good job anyway! (For the guitars :-p)
