I'm sure a lot of people have seen this vid, but I thought I'd put it on here anyway. It's been a long time since an instrumental song has made me cry, but this one sure did the trick. Just beautiful...

Indeed. The guy never gets the attention he deserved, and you know what, it drives me crazy. My girlfriend sometimes cries when she listens to Shawn, too. The only other player who affects her like that is me! LOL.

RIP Shawn! I guess he was just too good for most of us to realize, so God whisked him away to play with the angels. The real sad thing is Epilogue for Lisa was written for his sister who also died.

I personally love his work with Jonas Hellborg - I think he really had a chance to stretch then. I like his solo recordings a lot as well, but you are missing a large part of who he was as a musician if you don't check out the Hellborg albums (I suggest Temporal Analogues of Paradise, Time is the Enemy, Icon, and the Paris DVD).

I have never investigated shawn lane, but i could only listen to 1mins worth before having to put it off..compostionally i cant stomach that sort of stuff and the tone was horrid !

There's some great stuff he did with Hellborg, but as an introduction for anyone wanting to get into Shawn's stuff, I don't feel the Hellborg material is the right thing. I have all the albums, btw, and I still prefer his 2 solo discs.

I've heard people going on about what a great player he was ( i gather hes dead now) and yeah that was the first clip ive watched of him and no i didnt bloody like it !!

As for Whitesnake they're about as good as skooch or whatever theyre called so dont go making assumptions about people just becasue their taste differs from yours !

Don't go insulting Shawn Lane then.

Shawn was the most advanced player who ever lived. You cannot get any idea whatsoever as to how he played or sounded by that rough quality clip.

And keep in mind - I posted that clip for the melodic ideas he comes up with and the subtlety of his playing...you can find many other videos that show his "shredding" abilities. Shawn Lane was great because he could wipe the floor with so many people both melodically and technically.

I dont give a monkeys ass about his "shredding" abilities ,all i'm saying is that i dont like the composition or the playing for that matter....that fact that you find my opinon insulting makes you sound almost like some sort of facist christian fundamentalist !!
