Oh, there are many, many reasons to love Eric Johnson - tone, virtuosity, style, great songs and someone who appears to be a genuinely humble, nice human being - he's had a terrible run of luck across his career, and it's great to see that everything is finally happening for the man. The 1988 ACL DVD is fantastic - can't recommend it highly enough!

Cheers, David. I love the dvd myself. I picked up as soon as it came out. Trail Of Tears is my favorite song performed of that whole performance.

i like eric , he isn't my favorite but is cool . I really like his phrasing and technique , i know he is obsessive about his tone, it is alright but not my favorite either but i certainly have a great amount of respect for eric , he nails everything and does care about how he sounds .

I like andy timmons better (also a texas native) . His general tone is a bit more to my liking and he also has some really cool phrasing .

Eric is definitely amongst my top players, the guy has one of the most distinguishable and tasteful tones I've ever heard!!! a fine composer!!!

I just plain love Eric's music. If it wasn't for Eric I most likely would have quit playinga fair while ago.

Cliffs of Dover is just such a great track, thanks for the link. I first heard CoD when it was on the cover of Guitar Player magazine back in 1986 (anyone remember flexi-disc's!!?). I was hooked! Eric is superb.

I was just listening to this today and it is now one of my favorite EJ songs. I love EJ and I wish he would come down to california. Just finished Cliffs of Dover too.
