~Underwater Love~

I might have finished mixing it... not sure. Opinions are needed. I have to move on from this song, so this might be the final mix, but it was done on headphones because it's some silly time in the morning here.

I got a couple of seconds then it died. Trying to download again.

Sounds very nice and atmospheric for what those seconds were worth.

Re: Unraveled Tower, the Final Mix... I think?

it's great Dee, great playing!
great high quality recording too.
i loved the backing under the solo section and the creative use of soloing around it. great solo section, it could even have been longer or drifted into some more feels

there's a fast phaser effect sometimes that kinda disrupted the atmosphere for me and there was maybe a little too much repeating of riffs imo.. would i be right in that you tried to base it off the quality riffs and create an ever changing feel? Brothers by Garsed comes to mind, if you listen to that track, he does a lot of repeating and basing it on the quality of the riff and yet he manages to change the feel constantly and not make you feel like any riff was ever repeated if you know what i mean.. i think with a bit of that, this track would have extra power in it's groove and atmosphere sections

top job though and fantastic playing

Re: Unraveled Tower, the Final Mix... I think?

Thanks. "Brothers" wasn't an influence, but it's interesting that it made you think of it. It didn't occur to me that there was any resemblance. The only thing anyone has compared it to is the riff from Come As You Are by Nirvana, which wasn't an influence either!

I have mixed feelings about this track. I am happy I was able to get a sound like this in my bedroom using a PC, a V-Amp Pro, and some single drum hits arranged into a drum track. There's something to be said about having very little equipment to work with, it makes me work harder and be more creative sometimes. On the other hand, there are a couple of things I might have done differently if I'd put more thought into it, but overall I like the spontaneous way it fell together, so I decided to keep everything as it is.

Maybe I'll remake it one day and change the arrangement (I agree with a longer solo!), but if I do, I'd like to use a real drum kit. As for the phase effect, the whole thing was written around that sound. It came about from noodling with the effects in the V-Amp. The riff just came out as you hear it, and my girlfriend said I should record it and make a track based on it, so I did. If she hadn't had said that, I would have forgotten about it and done nothing. I like to please my lady.

The original was called Underwater Love, which was inspired by the watery phaser sound. I actually think the phased guitar should be more prominent in places, that's my only (minor) complaint with the mix. Interesting that this is the thing which you found distracting! It doesn't seem to be a distraction on my system, though. If anything it's a little too quiet.

Thanks again. Everything you said and suggested is taken on board.

That was superb!Excellent!
The rhythm track had a Nirvana,STP,Alice in Chains vibe to it which I really liked. The sound quality was spot on to.
Now just give me some artwork and I can put it on my ipod!

Let me start by saying FFFFAAAANNNTASTIC!!!! very professional sound and playing. but, I remember you said in another thread that you don't like vocal and for me your music sounds a little like a playback for a song where the vocals still need to be recorded. Maybe you should come up with some sort of a main melody to play over the riffs before you get to the main solo.

Re: Unraveled Tower, the Final Mix... I think?

Cool. By the way, I went back to the old title, Underwater Love. Maybe you can retitle the mp3 if you downloaded it and intend to keep it.

Barbarelaxe! To be honest, I just want to move on to something else now, very little thought went into this track -- the next one will probably be more complex, less like a backing track.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the actual mix? Nothing is way too loud or too quiet?

I'm no expert on mixing, but everything sounded good to me! Absolutely love your tone! My only complaint was that it took so long to get to your incredible soloing!

Nice leads, man I gotta practice. The guys on this forum are too good. Only things I would consider changing are 1. The effects on the guitar at the beginning are too much IMO, try less output on the effects. 2. Takes too long to break into the lead. Other than that very very impressive.

Re: Unraveled Tower, the Final Mix... I think?

Thanks for the comments.

mr.death, the whole track was written around that phased sound. I have tried less output on the effects but it lost the "underwater" vibe. If anything, the phased sound is not prominent enough in the mix for my liking. Think Led Zep's "No Quarter" from Houses of the Holy. Ideally I'd have a decent keyboard player using that kind of sound. I like the intensity of that sound. The V-Amp phaser is a little mushy, that's why I doubled it with a clean guitar. This track is imperfect, but much of the imperfection is caused by the fact I have barely any equipment to work with.

Finally got to listen to the song. Beautiful mate. I don't know if there's a bass guitar in there. Very inspiring. I do like the tone as well. I wouldn't change a thing.

Cheers mate. Yes, I used my Squier Jazz bass through the V-Amp. Not an ideal bass rig but it gets the job done!
