Video - My band playing live

Hey all,

Thought I'd upload this video so I could get some opinions/constructive critisims of one of our new songs.

It's a funk rock song called One Sided Dice. We are playing it at a local battle of the bands. We got put on first (too many reasons to go into here) so there isn't much (any) of a crowd. This is what we sound like at 12 noon with limited warm up time.

Anyways, here is the link

One Sided Dice

It is encoded in DivX 5.1.1 and is only 6mb.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Jon

Hey jon , nice song man!
First impressions I'd say that the guitars need to be abit louder , as i think they were washed out with the drums a little. I'd also say to work on the ending too. It ended very promptly , abit too promptly in my opinion. A bit of a break down there would of worked great.
Keep on rockin man
p.s. nice solos

Yea, guitars are a bit quiet.

Though, I must say, sounds like a really heavy Maroon 5 (especially the singer ). And that's not exactly a bad thing IMHO

The music sounded pretty good, but the vocalist didn't do it for me.

I particulary like the drummer. The guitar solo was too short for my taste and could have done a bit more to add to the song.

Overall it was good if you use the typical band that enters a battle of the bands as a standard, but not up to par with a band that could get signed by a major or independent record label.

Hey, thank you so much for the positive comments and the time you've taken to reply to the thread, i really appreciate it.

In terms of the guitars being quiet there isn't much I can do about that as it was down to the sound guy behind the desk. I seemed ok in the monitors so I assumed it was fine out front.

We'll take your comments into consideration as this isn't by any means the final version of the song. It is in fact the first time we've ever played it live. There's gonna be a whole load of backing vocals on it, but we just didn't have the rehursal time to get them down. Perhaps even see what we can do with the ending

Nice to see someone taking notice of our drummer. He is really great but never seems to get any praise from people who watch us. He has a really good funk groove thing and this song was written around him.

There isn't really suppposed to be a guitar solo in this song, I was just improvising along with it. It is me at my most restrained really. I'm just gunning for the musicianship marks in the competition there.

Good to see you like the singer Pawel. We get a lot of mixed opinions on him. Some love him, others don't. I guess he is just one of those singers who you like or don't.

Thanks again for your time, look forward to more comments. I may upload another video depending on how popular this one proves to be.

It was cool man.
I wasn't a fan of the vocals, they were ok in the verses, but the long "roll" in the chorus' weren't appealing to me.

I thought the guitar level was ok, especially for the kind of heavy chords you were playing, you don't want everyone else fighting to be heard.

I wasn't too hot on the patch used for the keys, maybe something along the sounds of a soft, warm synth would be better. Although the parts the keyboardist played wouldn't suit the synth sound.
Which brings me to the point of what the keyboardist plays :P That kind of "strummed" (heh) playing didn't work well for me. You already have the guitar doing the rhythm stuff, no need for the keys to do it aswell. Maybe some sparser playing would have been cool, possibly long sustained notes (tho it might end up sounding cheesy).
Maybe something "jazzier" with a simplier rhythm (less notes rhythmically for each chord).

P.s. no one would ever guess that you liked Petrucci from that ending
