Viva La Vida and Satch
Sorry if this has been posted. Has anyone seen this? Wow. Check it out:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1ofFw9DKu_I
Im guessing the guitarist or someone from coldplay is influenced by satch and they subconsciously took that melody. Hmmm. or Extreme coincidence.
EDIT: By the way, heres a full remixed version:

Re: Viva La Vida and Satch
The first part of the melody is the same but then then rest is different. However the overall resemblance is very interesting. I think they just wrote pretty much the same thing. It happens. If they
are
Satch fans, I'm sure they would have noticed the resemblance and refrained from releasing it?

Although they are quite a boring band (except Parachutes) I'd say they are too prolific to steal a melody line from a very famous guitar instrumentalist...resemblance yes, plaigarism no (don't think so anyway
) I think they have got too much to lose to mess around with stuff like that....they don't need the hassle (or the ideas!)

If Vai can steal from the Kung Fu show and make FTLOG it's all fair game.

Re: Viva La Vida and Satch
My guess is that the lead guitarist is influenced by Joe and didn't realize he took it.

No, they didn't steal it. They probably have never heard of Joe Satriani....Have you heard Coldplay? They don't exactly sound like they would be interested in instrumental guitar shred....You can't steal a
chord progression
, because they are repeated again and again in many different songs...It doesn't sound exactly the same either...The only part that sounds similar is the chorus, and you can even hear near the end of the vid that Satriani's guitar line is being played over a different progression, which is Gmaj7, F#m7add4, Gmaj7, F#m7add4, Badd4.......These kind of coincidences happen ALL THE TIME in music....Seriously, I can't believe people's alarmist, silly reactions over this...

Yep.
Btw, I think they're somewhat boring, aswell. I really like '
The scientist
'. But all the rest I've heard just sounds kinda monotonous to me.
