I play in a country band. It's not my musical passion. But it's fun, and we get out playing and get to do some big shows. Tonight we opened for Emerson Drive. They're pretty big in country music right now. They have a song called "Moments" getting alot of air play.
Here's the long version if the experience. Things did not go as planned. Our regular drummer was to be out of town, so I said, "Hey, I know a drummer." I should have kept my mouth closed. The drummer I know is a nice guy, a great drummer, but didn't learn his parts, and then had a different problem today. Slurred speech, trouble sitting up straight. Missing his drums, and not knowing the parts. So half hour before the show, practically with tears in my eyes. Partially because I couldn't believe that he did this to me, and my band, but also because I knew he was looking forward to the show. I was broken hearted and bordering on freakin darn mad. I had to tell him he wasn't going to be playing the show with us. He swears he wasn't on anything. But whatever had him like that, it was going to be a train wreck. The decision was made to do the show without the drummer. We did, and it went fine. We've done shows without the drummer before, so we know how it's done. But this was a big show for us, and I'm the one that hired the guy. And he's a friend,..... maybe. I feel like a steamy pile now because of the whole situation. In the end though. It was a great time. We all played our parts well, and did our best to entertain. We got good crowd response and had plenty of people say they enjoyed the show. And I still get a big joy out of doing the national openers with the big PA and lights and people standing right at the stage.
Here's some pics from the show.
And the JSX tearing it up!

I ran it on the clean channel with a modded BD-2 most the night. That thing LOVES a big open area. It sounded so much better on that stage than it does in my plaster walled 10x10 den.
